DBTECH 0 #1 November 5, 2001 Tuesday morning on ABC's Good Morning America, there will be a segment on building escape parachutes!Dave Brownell
cameramonkey 0 #2 November 5, 2001 any bets as to whether there will be any USEFUL info such as the fact that thermals from fire tend to cause MAJOR issues wont be represented? I wont make that bet as I am sure it will be one sided and ignorant info as usual.
freeflir29 0 #3 November 6, 2001 The segment I saw was pretty cool. The reporter was grilling the guy about why a real person wasn't jumping the chute. They had put a test dummy in the rig and pushed it off a tower. The guy gave some lame excuse about "FAA" regulations.......BULLLSHIT!"There once was a man named Enis....."-Krusty the ClownClay
Donna 0 #4 November 6, 2001 It was actually pretty good. They hadsome idiot talking about the line of parachutes he makes (I think it was "The ExecutiveChute") and saying how easy it was to use. You just clip it to somethingand jump off and it deploys itself and you are fine. No training neededat all. Or so he claims. He had put the rig on during the taping while on top of a buildingand I'm going... Come on! Jump off! Show us how safe it is!Then they had a nice section with some BASEjumpers discussing the actual dangers and how much can go wrong. Thewinds, the fire itself, the thermals, body position and getting caught inthe lines, getting slammed back into the building you just jumped from, crashing into the surrounding buildings, no steering with this chute, landing intraffic etc. etc. Very heads up. Then they cut back to the idiot and askhim about all the problems the BASE jumpers just mentioned but he insiststhat it IS safe because he has tested it..........from a crane.........in a midwest cornfield....... with a dummy.IMO They did a pretty good job portraying that while at first glance it sounds like a good idea that there are many problems involved and people shouldn't be running out and buying these things.
