Krishan 0 #2 November 3, 2001 well I'm from NM, but I drive up to Front Range Skydivers in Calhan, CO every so often. OK, so I've only been up there once, but I plan on more trips ;-)They are only about a half hour form Colorado Springs and it's a great dz. Nice people, great facility. Since the field elevation is already at 6500, they dont usually go above 11K agl, but they've got a nice caravan. If's a fun place, try it out.

hookit 0 #4 November 7, 2001 I used to live in Colorado Springs and did my AFF progression at Skydive the Rockies. It was a fun little dz flying a Cessna 206. The people there were great and the scenery was amazing! It's right by the Royal Gorge bridge and we flew directly over the bridge on each climb to altitude. They definitely cater to students and tandems but it's still a fun dz for an experienced jumper especially if you're looking for a mellow day with great scenery and relaxed jumps. Plus, if Skip is still there then there will always be beer afterwards!Once I got my A license I started jumping at Front Range Skydivers mainly because they had a Caravan and turned way more loads. Plus, since I lived on the east side of Colorado Springs, they were much closer. Unfortunately I never really got to know too many of the folks there...I was just off student status and usually jumped with one or two other newbies. I definitely don't remember it as being a party dz. It's east of Colorado Springs (away from the mountains) so the scenery isn't nearly as pretty as Skydive the Rockies. If you're an experienced jumper moving to Colorado Springs I would recommend checking out both dz's. Also there are several dz's in the Denver area as I recall but I never managed to get up there to jump them. Now I live in Houston and jump at Skydive Spaceland! All I can say is I love our Super Otter and landing at sea level. I also love our swoop ditch but that's a whole different story!Blue Skies and Safe Swoops!-Trey

SkymonkeyONE 4 #6 November 8, 2001 Fort Carson and Peterson Airforce Base are both on the south side of The Springs; technically the south-east, but the place has sprawled so much I am not sure what they call that now. It used to be that the E/W split was I-25 and you were "south" if you were below the Academy/ I-25 junction. Either way, if you have a choice, you don't want to live anywhere near the post in the Security or Widefield area; they are military slums. Well east is OK if you like the desert, or well north if you want to get away from the military. It's not too difficult since you can zip right up (or down) the interstate. There are several Fort Carson exits right off I-25. Farther away from skydiving, but MUCH cooler in my opinion is living up in the mountains behind Manitou Springs and as far up as Green Mountain Falls. I lived in The Springs from 7th grade thru my junior year and had a blast. Had it not been so late in my career when they moved out there, I would have gladly transfered to the 10th SFG when they moved from Devins to Carson.
