Recommended Posts

Just wondering who was going to be there, and what days. I normally jump at Skydive Atlanta and am going to be freezing my as# off for this boogie. Will it be worthwile. Also, how far is CSS from Raeford? Hope to see some of you there.

Dude, the weather here is BEAUTIFUL right now. You wont freeze, I jumped last week and I was fine (and I HATE to be cold). CSS is about 2 hours from Raeford. Stick to 95 and 40 and it will go faster....getting hung up in the inbetween towns sucks! If you need specific directions, let me know. I hope to be there, but I just moved back up here, so I dont know many people at CSS *yet*! The ones I met last week were incredibly nice! Safe travels, and JUMP YOUR ASS OFF!!!

You will land off at that boogie so always take smokes, $20, and a pull up chord with you...

Damn right you'll land off. I was there for last years Easter Boogie (had a great time btw.) and landed off over 50% of the time, one time over 5 miles from the DZ.
On the plus side, the pick up van will usually be waiting for you by the time you land.
Go to the Boogie, it's a great time.

I'm definantly going, I was mainly interested in knowing if there were any dz.comers that would be in attendance. But, why do people land off so frequently? What type of terrain will I be landing off in(places to land a high performance canopy)?

OK, I was wonderin that myself....its such a BIG OPEN area....bigger than Raeford. I thought I had a better chance of landing "on" there, given my distance perception problem LOL. I dunno, though, havent had to spot for myself there yet. Those of you who were "off" please enlighten the newbie student (me) THANK YOU!!

Uh... having a Casa with jump runs of up to 2 miles long does'nt help to put everyone on the DZ. All the visitors to SGC are pissed when they land off, but its sometimes the price you pay to have some toys....
Another reason is out of a tailgate plane you MUST rely on the Pilot to spot, it you try to spot your self, you just hosed the entire plane.
A rainy day at the DZ is better then a Sunny day at work

People land off at Louisburg (CSS) because everything is out in one pass....PERIOD. Lots of DZ's with high volume are this way in an effort to maximize profit. Want to make sure you land on the airport? Get our first or wear a birdman suit. :)There is a ton of room for camping at Louisburg, so bring a tent or come in an RV. The DZ is not as close to downtown Raleigh as some would think (nearly an hour north if you are dragging ass), but it is easy to get to. The definite hook-up for those coming from points south is to take 95 to 40, then around the beltline north to either US1 or 401. From North of Wilson, NC, take 64(?) south over to the 440 beltline. There are directions on the website as well. I can get to CSS in about two hours from Raeford without breaking too many laws.
Oddly, I will not be there this time as I will be in Atlanta for Thanksgiving, then probably down to Z-hills for a day or two. Start (and maybe end) your evenings around the bonfire and you will find plenty of people to party with.

Interesting terrain at CCS. The main landing area is a hill, with a nice incline, a small flat area with peas, and a nice decline after that. If you don't land on the DZ there are plenty of nice outs. The sod farm, if you're lucky enough to land there, is an _excellent_ landing area.

landing area is on an incline. not bad, but it is a bill. aim for peas and you'll be OK.
teh sod foarm is a MOST excellent landing area- checked it out when doing CRW- got a bit carried away with rotations and forgot about the landign stuff... oops. HOWEVER... do not land in a tree trying to aim for the nice sod farm, as our friend jimbo did....

Ha. I wasn't aiming for the sod farm on that one. I landed against the tree when I landed 5 or miles out. And don't say I should have looked first, first time at the DZ, what the hell was I supposed to look for, ground?
Anyhow, it was trees on the left and power lines on the right. Pretty simple making that decision.
It was funny though.
At least I didn't hook turn a demo canopy into a cow. Stacy.

there were no cows. just the farm... which i cleverly missed. you are just jealous that you didn't get a um swoop like i did on my second attempt on the demo!!!!!
maybe i woulda flew that better if the tent next to me had been a little quieter the night before... ha!!!

it aint a real CReW rig if you cant see canopy after its packed! lol... crazy CReW dawgs....

Hey! What's wrong with that? Why waste the energy making it a nice, neat looking pack job when it's only gonna be in there for about a second after exit? ;)

not a problem. it was really funny actually. the whole boogie made me laugh coem to think about it... never a dull moment at CSS. If you are there say hello to Jesper, Danish video/tandem guy. Not sure if he's still around, . Also definitely meet a guy named Jerry. Just ask for Jerry at manifest and everyone knows who he is. Loads of fun.
