Tee 0 #1 November 22, 2001 So, I have decided to get my sweetie a DVD player for his birthday. (Isn't it great how when you live together these presents can benefit the BOTH of you. ) But I'm not sure which options to look for....DVD/VCD/CD Player/CD-R/RW playback/MP3 Decoders/S-video or component video output/Audio output/Surround sound options....HELP!!! I would appreciate your input on this. We do have the surround sound system and digital capabilities on our TV so I would like to maximize those as well. Thanks guys!!!Tee
 mountainman 0 #2 November 22, 2001 If you do not have the speakers already, check out the all-in-one systems. Laura and I have a Sony CD/DVD player with reciever/amp hooked up to 5 surround speakers and a sub. It all came together for about $600. We have this hooked up to a 36" Sony VEGA TV. It is really nice and easy to set-up. Check out the packages if you dont want something complicated and you can just set-up in mere minutes.-------------http://www.JumpinDuo.com"oh no. You'll need to check what kind of audio / video input the TV has (you said it is "digital", but does it have digital inputs, and which: thwere are several types: it may be optic fiber...). Then, you should get a DVD player that has at least a matching output. Also, do you have a stereo system? The sound quality you will get from a decent stereo system will be almost as a rule vastly superior then any TV sound.Make sure you look at comparative study of DVD players. More money does not mean better nececerally. I dont know about canadian/us guides, but for a reference, have a look at the UK one http://www.dvdreview.co.uk/ in the hardware review.RemiMuff
 Tee 0 #4 November 23, 2001 Thanks for the input!
