quade 4 #3 November 29, 2001 SSL time is drawing near . . . yeah, like what's up with THAT anyway? Didn't the season used to start at the Eloy Money Meet? This year's SSL #1 is at Perris on January 12! Yeah, like there's a LOT of people that are going to get in some quality practice between Christmas, Kwanzaa, Chanukah and New Years. As for Disneyland tonight, yes, I plan on going unless it's raining.Paulhttp://futurecam.com/skydive.html

quade 4 #5 November 29, 2001 The basic FAI proposal would reduce the dive pool (blocks and randoms) and shorten meets from ten rounds to seven. The USPA questionaire/proposal is asking, among other things, if that would be ok.The Alternate proposal by Moy, et. al. changes some of the pool but keeps 10 rounds.Tim Wagner's "TidBits" commentary basically agrees with the Moy proposal but doesn't address the USPA proposal. He's written me to say he's not quite ready to comment on -THAT- yet, but when he does it will be interesting! My suggestion would be to start with the Wagner TidBits page first and work your way backward. I know this sounds, uh, backward, but Tim's been in the game for a LONG time and has a knack for clairity on this sort of thing.Unfortunately, both the FAI and Moy proposals suffer quite a bit in the translation from French to English and reading Wagner's comments will help give you a head start on understanding the details. The USPA questionaire/proposal is, simply put and in my opinion, bizzare.Paulhttp://futurecam.com/skydive.html
weid14 0 #6 November 29, 2001 well, I say go 12 rounds!!!! teh FAI can't seem to complete a competition in less than 5 days (10 rounds), but yet Eloy and Perris were able to complete a much larger meet 4,8,10 and 16 way in about teh same time, go figure. I agree with the french guys, with the addition of the black hole as a random (Tim's suggestion). The french proposal eliminates potential triple blocks, while slowing the draw a bit. Apparently the FAI want's to slow the dives to make them easier to judge (my response would be to train the judges better, but whatever). As teams get faster and faster, the formations get harder to judge (39 points in 35 seconds is the current world record, that's a lot of button pushing quickly). The french propose 18 randloms and 22 blocks, deleting the ones that make the most sense and adding a couple new ones. The FAI also thinks that shortening the meet to 7 rounds would make it appeal better to the media and public in general. the opposite opion resides with most (all) competitors. shoot, how many 4 or 8 way meets were decided in rounds 8,9 or 10.... many! Better organization is the key. Dont' penalize the competitors.wow, sorry about the soapbox, but I really like 4way and competition
 Join the conversation You can post now and register later.
