scottbre 0 #26 December 4, 2001 QuoteIf the US was totally destroyed where will Canada be?First off, the United States is not going to be totally destroyed, or anywhere close to that. The United States is just too powerful for that to happen, unless the U.S. somehow manages to piss off the entire world. Once again, that's not going to happen.QuoteYou are trying to wear blinders and pretend that the world is a nice place.I'm not saying that the world is a nice place. What I am saying is that I am not comfortable with the U.S. government carrying out whatever agenda it has and then coming back to me and saying, "What do you mean you don't approve? I did it all for you."I am not saying that I disagree with what the government is currently doing to eliminate terrorism. I am saying that the same government has been responsible for just as many shady doings as good deeds. I just don't want to be their excuse for those bad things they have done or will do in the future. The ends do NOT justify the meansQuoteDo you not understand that their are plenty of people in the world that would just as soon kill you right now just because you are a westernerYea, well there are more than plenty of people who like the United States, and whose countries have choosen to ally with the United States, and whose vacation plans center around the United States. There are also plenty of people who think that the Holocaust was a joke, or that white people are the supreme race, or that reverseable jackets are cool. The world is big enough and has enough people that there will always be "plenty" of people who agree with pretty much any opinion that is expressed.QuoteYou make me fucking sick! You are free to have your own opinion, but aside from this sentence, I will take the high road and not respond to that.Scott"Can't keep my mind from the circling sky. GrumpySmurf 0 #27 December 4, 2001 "If the US was totally destroyed where will Canada be?"Happy...that the world is finally rid of bad beer? ;)Honesty - in big trouble - considering each is a (if not the most) significant trading partner of the other, if either were to fall, the economy of the other would most likely collapse.Hopefully we can teach you Yanks what good beer is, in good time (of course). Then you won't need us any more ;)
freeflir29 0 #28 December 4, 2001 "if either were to fall, the economy of the other would most likely collapse."and security......Yes...we do need some instruction in Beer brewing....and you could export some of those college hotties from Kingston if you don't mind! They were all so friendly.....but wouldn't give up the panties for nothin!!!! SpeedRacer 1 #29 December 4, 2001 Hey Grumpysmurf! Come on down & visit! USA has LOTS of good beer these days! Maybe we don't export much of the good stuff, but its here!-SpeedRacer(homebrewer & BIG fan of small American breweries)Speed RacerWhat contemptible scoundrel has stolen the cork from my lunch?!-WC Fields
GrumpySmurf 0 #30 December 4, 2001 I'm already here. Running amok in Madison, Wi. Gotta admit the microbreweries here are great, they have this porter at a brew pub called JT Whitneys that actually has coffee and chocolate added - really good stuff. But this mainstream stuff is utter crap - we used to joke home that Molsons used to bottle straight off the urinals - I'm now of the opinion Miller and Bud use the leftovers Molson rejects ;)A friend of mine told me about Americans before I moved here:1) If you think the football players are big, you haven't seen the fans yet.2) They never say 'You're welcome', only 'Un-hum'3) What they call beer is just coloured water with bubbles. And one I gotta add - 4) They got kick ass DZ's :)
Phil 0 #31 December 4, 2001 "If the US was totally destroyed where will Canada be?"I guess still north of the US?Not that I will get crossed with my US Friends, but for some reason the US has somewhat the tendency to act like a big bully. " You do as you're told or else" I mean how can it be, that the US can basically tell an other country how it has to run its business? And I mean not a 3rd world country no I mean a european country. Or that the IRS will demand, that the rest of the world has to do what they want in regards to US Securities?Nobody is perfect, but stop kidding yourself and try to read some newspaper (on the net) from other countries and see what they write and don't be surprised to find out that a lot of information will not be passed on US television because it wont fit the image your government wants you to believe. Let's not get into a "we against the rest of the world" sort of thing, but let us just realize, that we all have our problems in the countries we're in. At the end it's what we make of it. blue onesPhil
freeflir29 0 #32 December 4, 2001 "try to read some newspaper (on the net) from other countries"I regularly, almost daily, read newspapers from Columbia, Brazil, Chile, Russia (East and West), and several middle eastern news sources that are extremely anti western and anti Russian. I am very aware of the slant that American news media puts on world events. Half truths are an understatement. I like to know what motivates people around the world and take steps to not only understand the events but the ideaology behind them. I think they call it "Open source" intelligence....maybe......."and I'm not easily impressed...Ooohh look...a blue car!" -Homer Simpson
freeflir29 0 #33 December 4, 2001 "the US has somewhat the tendency to act like a big bully"It seems that way to a lot of people because we have all the money and all the guns..........So, yes......we can have things go our way! GrumpySmurf 0 #34 December 4, 2001 Security..Clay - you've been smoking crack again huh? ;)What security does Canada provide the US - from an invasion of Florida bound polar bears? I doubt we could even stop those - considering the Armed Forces are too busy helping with floods, ice storms or Bosnia. My understanding was that the DEW line is pretty much defunct, and there hasn't been any news of US cruise missle tests over the Northwest Territories in quite some time.Though I really wish the Canuck gov't would change the immigration policies, they are way too porous in letting in people that shouldn't be and the red trade to go through to deport someone is staggering. That would probably be the best way to increase the security value for the US.But if you are looking for cute chicks, go to Montreal, talk about some delectable ones - oh yum yum yum. Phil 0 #35 December 4, 2001 "got all the money and all the guns" and that makes it ok to play the ruler of the world. ok I guess others figured out that they didn't need the money or the guns - planes did the job just fine. And by the way - I'm glad that you guys are bombing these fuckers out of this world.By the way is it maybe your neighbour that is sending those letters with that shitty white powder? So much for serve and protect. Reminds me of foreplay for rednecks " shut the f..k up or I'll rape you".Again let's not get down that lane. Why can we just leave it with the fact that there are some beautiful DZ's out there and that we need to do a lot more jumps. As they say some many DZ's - so little time.RelaxPhil

freeflir29 0 #37 December 4, 2001 "What security does Canada provide the US"Probably not what it used to be during the height of the cold war but still pretty substantial. The porous border is definately a problem. It didn't take long for the smarter drug runners to figure out that it's much easier to get a plane load of coke across the Canada border than the Mexican. freeflir29 0 #38 December 4, 2001 "I guess others figured out that they didn't need the money or the guns - planes did the job just fine"Hmmm...the US lost a few buildings and a bunch of countries lost citizens. They got their whole country routed in pretty short order. Doesn't look like a good move so far. Maybe they are still holding reserves....LMAO"and I'm not easily impressed...Ooohh look...a blue car!" -Homer Simpson
cameramonkey 0 #39 December 5, 2001 this thread just makes me think of one great quote..."Although I disagree with what you say, I will defend your right to the death to say it" -Voltaire. As for those that dont agree with patriotism and how great this country is, I'll gladly help pay for a one way ticket for you to get the hell outta this great country so that you may live in a better one (according to you). "if you arent part of the solution, you are probably part of the problem"PS.. the message that started this thread is a patriotic joke, dont take it TOO seriously or literally (geckox, etc.)
pdj6p 0 #40 December 5, 2001 funny on this one I have to agrea with clay. especialy after living outside the U.S. for a couple of years I have to say the U.S. is the greatest country in the world. FallingILweenie 0 #41 December 5, 2001 My $.02:I love to live here. I have lived elsewhere and I will stay here the rest of my life. But because I love the country doesn't mean i always have to agree with everything that goes on or everything the government does. Isn't that one of the ideas behind having all these freedoms, the fact that we can question the government if we don't feel they are doing the job we think they should be doing? just my opinion.blue skiesTomas
