billvon 3,120 #1 December 4, 2001 Just got back from a fun weekend at the Nevada state record attempt. We set up manifest at a casino in Laughlin, Nevada, where we could also get $16 rooms and $5 dinners. I packed in my room, since it was a lot warmer and drier than the grass outside. It was definitely odd carrying a rig through a casino, past chain smoking 70 year old slot-machine players and lounge singers. On the plus side, there were four restaraunts and three bars within 50 feet of where we were dirt diving. On the minus side, it was freezing! I think it was 45F the morning of the first day, and a lot of the jumpers on our loads looked like Michelin Men as they put on every bit of clothing they could find. We'd dirt dive at the hotel, then get on a bus for a 5 minute ride to the airport. We'd jump almost directly over the hotel, and land in a lot about a quarter mile away. Usually we'd get a bus back, although at least a few people just landed next to the hotel. And last but not least we set a new record. We put up a 38 way, then a 40 way on Sunday morning (old record was 36.) We had two groups competing for the new record, and the Elsinore/Nevada team tried the rest of the day for a 41-way, but weather finally shut them down Sunday afternoon. There were a lot of people on our load (the Perris team) who owe beer.-bill von

It's a little chilly, but come on! I think we need to get the names of all involved here and invite them to a day of jumping in Febuary in New Jersey. Congrats to all involved.-Jim

ltdiver 3 #5 December 4, 2001 Jim....Ok...for us Southern CA and NV jumpers, 45 degrees on the ground is more than just sweater weather. ;^) And if you calculate the temp at altitude (14,500) it was a ~chilly~ negative 13 ! Glad I took my warmies along! As for the fun, yeah it was a blast with old and new friend aquaintance made. Felt like a real family without all the growing pains! And the record looked awesome. A beautiful star formation that was held for several seconds...steady as a rock. Can't wait to see the completed video production!ltdiver (one who likes warm blue skies)__________________________________________http://www.discover.net/~ltdiver

quade 4 #9 December 4, 2001 Well . . . I've gotten an email and a phone call today from a couple of the jumpers on the 40-way. Looks like there -may- be something amiss on the 40-way. Since I have the video and stills, I'll be checking them out VERY closely tonight. If the 40-way record doesn't hold due to technical issues, the 38-way should.Details on my web site tomorrow morning! Stay tuned!Paulhttp://futurecam.com/skydive.html
billvon 3,120 #10 December 4, 2001 >45 degrees is freezing? It's a little chilly, but come on! Actually, I would have been OK just jumping in that temp (I started jumping in New York.) It was the three hours of milling around outside waiting for registration and dirt diving to get sorted out that froze me. I didn't wise up and just sit in the casino until 9am.-bill von
Jimbo 0 #11 December 6, 2001 Hey Lori, I tried to respond with a PM, but it didn't work, so what the hell, I'll do it here.I jump at Cross Keys, but lately we've had quite a few of the Jersey Shore folk come down and join us. It's kind of funny, some of them are amazed when they see planes that hold more than 4 people and get to altitude in 15 minutes.Who do you know from there? You can email me directly at: jim_mutter@yahoo.com.-Jim
ltdiver 3 #12 December 6, 2001 Jim,Got your PM just fine. Sometimes this NG sends you to download something instead (never quite got that hiccup reason) but the PM is sent just fine.My friend is Bunge Hankins. Good guy with a big heart. Started doing video this year just for fun.Lori__________________________________________http://www.discover.net/~ltdiver
