wceviper 0 #1 December 10, 2001 I have searched all the forums and found various articles on jump with or without sunglasses. (searched for word sunglass). For those of you who do jump with sunglasses, What kinds do you jump with, and how well do they protect your eyes. Also, what kind of helmet do you wear with them, does it help keep them more secure to your face? So, here is the reason I ask. I ride a motorcycle, and sometimes I don't wear a full face helmet. I wear one of those little brain bucket ones when cruising around town, I rarely get on the highway with it. (Eye protection is required when riding in California) So i have 2 pairs of sunglasses I wear. 1 pair is some 200 dollar oakleys. and the other is a cheap 5 dollar pair (I like the cheaper ones better). I notice a big difference in eye protection. With the oakleys, anything after 95mph makes my eyes water, the others i have gone as fast as 140mph (Top speed of bike) and I didn't have any problems. The big difference in skydiving vs a motorcycle is body position. For the most part you face is looking strait into the wind. But with skydiving there are lots of variables. IE, looking at heading, checking Altimeter, headdown, sitfly and so forth. What sunglasses and helmet combo work good for you, and do you notice changes in airflow to your eyes when you change body position?-Jason

AggieDave 6 #3 December 10, 2001 Although I use goggles, I've seen quite a few Oakleys around various DZs. Though, they are the ones that are oval type looking, almost like small goggles, not the typical sweep type oakley...If I was in your position, I'd cruise the websites of a few different big name sunglass makers and look at what they offer. I'm willing to bet you'll find something that you know would work. Or drop by a mall and goto a store like the Sunglass Hut to try a few different kind on.AggieDave '02-------------Blue Skies and Gig'em Ags!BTHO t.u. Slappie 9 #4 December 10, 2001 I agree with AggieDave. I wear tinted goggles. I've seen quite a few people who wear sunglasses though. If Ramon stumbles across this thread he wears sunglasses. I'm just not sure which ones myself. I've been thinking about trying them myself. My goggles aren't very scratch resistant and they are getting a bit blurry. Good luck. airann 1 #7 December 10, 2001 I have 2 pair of prescription goggles that I got when I was a student. One pair in smoke and one pair in amber. But the prescription did not fix what I wanted it to.I jump in Gatorz and I have never had a problem. I dont even wear a sunglasses anchor thingy on them. (They are made out of aircraft material.) I just stick my helmet on and jump. I dont get any air on my eyes or anything. My other friend jumps in his and once, we did four jumps and he lost four pair of contacts. So, his dont fit as good as mine, I guess. Most of the Para guys wear Gatorz. Raymond and I traded. I had the blue lenses, and he had blue hair, so we traded. Apparently he still has them. The last picture I saw of him on the ParaPerformance website was ole Raymond standing there with the blue lenes Gatorz hanging around his neck. Slayton wears them too, I see. Ratz, I wish those guys would quit copying me. BBBBaaaaaahhhh!AirAnnBAWAHHH! and click on Hey Jude!
brits17 0 #8 December 11, 2001 i will occasionally jump with my "minute" oakley's. i will usually just jump em with croakies for hop n' pops pond swooping... or the helmetless jumps such as crw. in freefall, they are just fine headdown going 150mph, no probs. but i just use the tinted goggles with my helmet because they're more comfortable with the nvertigo than oakley's are... PalmettoTiger 1 #9 December 11, 2001 Do a search on the Gear and Rigging forum for the word 'shades' in the past 6 months, I know this has come up before. I've jumped sunglasses once as a tandem passenger. They were pretty close-fitting prescription shades, but I've lost them and can't remember what brand they were. If I looked down I got too much wind in my eyes, but if I looked at the horizon I was fine. They did wobble a bit though.I wanted to put some really inspiring lyrics here but none of them fit.>< !!
