rendezvous 0 #1 December 21, 2001 After taking some BASE training from let's say some place like Basic Research how does one indulge in the sport legally in the US.
PhreeZone 20 #2 December 21, 2001 Legally? Bridge day or the Bridge in Idaho.....Ask this one on Baselogic.comI want to touch the sky, I want to fly so high ~ Sonique
riggerrob 643 #3 December 22, 2001 Visit Interigo (did I spell that correctly?). Marta and the boys have access to a bunch of legal cliffs in Utah.
PhreeZone 20 #4 December 22, 2001 Well... Technically any BLM land is legal to jump its the NPS land that will get you in front of a Judge. The Buerau of Land Management is a whole lot more lax on issusing permits for land access then the NPS. Also the BLM does not regulate what can occur unless you are wanting to alter the land with a 4-wheeler, forest fire, ect. Utah has the most open areas to do Cliffs, Bridges are legally taken care of with Bridge day and the on in Idaho. Buildings and Antennas are harder to come by legally, but they do exist. The towers in Mylasia are one of a few legal spots with permission. Antennas are hit or miss at the best if you can get permission to jump them. Remember with Antennas, some towers throw off huge amounts of radiation up close. Do your research on which do and which don't before you try for permission.I want to touch the sky, I want to fly so high ~ Sonique
ramon 0 #5 December 24, 2001 Go to Moab Utah and hook up with some experienced people. If you jump outside of Utah, make sure you trust the people you jump with not to get you in trouble. It is imperative that you find a mentor who knows all the ins and outs especially as was mentioned, getting fried on some antennas.good luck.r
AggieDave 6 #6 December 24, 2001 I remember reading somewhere about some BASE jumpers who spent a couple hours looking up what the stuff on an antenna was and finding out what kind of RF the put out to try to figure out if it would give them brain damage/kids with 6 arms/etc. if they climbed it. If I remember right, they figured out that by the time the climbed it, they would have something like 5-10 minutes before they *had* to jump (read: before the RF did permenate damage). Strange bread of folks...wouldn't mind trying it someday though. AggieDave '02-------------Blue Skies and Gig'em Ags!BTHO t.u.
3fLiEr 0 #7 December 24, 2001 Would posts like these not be better answered on BLiNC rather than a "skydive" site???................... if you wanna know about BASE - go to a BASE board........... does that make sense??Do things properly!..........check out the BASE fatality site.......... too many skydivers trying to be BASE jumpers without proper knowledge............ bsbd"In a world where we are slaves to gravity I am pleased to be a freedom fighter"
rendezvous 0 #8 December 24, 2001 thanks everyone for their answers, as for 3Flier, child, appreciate your thought but I think if Sex can be discussed in skydiving talk back so can BASE jumping be, Now if you have something personal against BASE I respect that but that doesn't mean you have to get personal about it. The idea behind forums is to get peoples opinions. For that I think the more people you target the better it is, and though Skydivers may not be BASE jumpers but I think there are quite a few who may know enough about it to add their two bits. airann 1 #10 December 24, 2001 Base outside of towers is a big production. The less than a handful of good guys around here have a crew with them. 99% of people dont even know its going on. Much less get invited to be on crew. On top of that, most people dont even know who the 'real' base jumpers are. Its not like you can go and do a tandem to try it.So, like stuff said here, a superb mentor is key. There are all kinds of details. Details you can read over on BLiNcmagazine.com. 1. My experienced friend jumped a tower by himself, I think he had 500 base jumps, and broke his back on a line. After four hours of crawling he made it to his truck. 2. a Houston famous type guy- Cradered his arm badly, among other injuries and he is way experienced. This Dude has barely even jumped out of an airplane. I think he has one jump from a plane. (I could be wrong) If you get on his crew, its an extreme honor. I was asked once and gave my slot to my best friend. He filmed it and its pretty interesting, but you cant see a damn thing. This is definately something you can not just go and do. Unless its a tower and then its still detailed. Most everything happens at night. If you were going to say... jump from a building downtown Houston... the guys take sometimes a week or month or more to case a building. Like a bank robbery. Where are the guards. What is the roof security. Then what is the ground security. After jump how does the roof crew get down and how many minutes does that take. Fastest way to get outta there. And on and on..On the other hand... my friend knows of a tower that you can go up and down all day log jumping. But even in the best of circumstances there is zero margin of error.http://www.AirAnn.comUgly Girl #
