Well Today i bought a replacement camera body for my aging Nikon N60. I chose the Nikon N90s. I have used this camera many time before and 100% loved it. So when i got my christmas preasents from my grandma ($500 check :o) i decided it was time to get the Camera i had lusting over for sometime. :)I swear you must have footprints on the back of your helmet - chicagoskydiver

Hey Viking! Two years ago I was shoping around for an SLR. I was drooling over the N90, but couldn't spend that much money w/ a child on the way. I ended up meeting myself half way and got the N60 on sale. I sold the idea to Heather (my wife) by telling her it's for our soon to be born son...so I could take decent/quality pictures of him growing up. Have fun w/ your new toy for me. I took a photography class in college...it's was one of my favorite classes (they didn't offer skydiving).

Workin the Grandma angle... Heh?

i am not "workin" the grandma angle, i have been working my ass off around the house, taking care of my grandpa. If you had been paying attention instead of looking my arch and thinking dirty thoughts then you would know that. :)I swear you must have footprints on the back of your helmet - chicagoskydiver

I hope I don't kill your buzz but...
I have an N90s (sold my N90 last year for $400 and felt good about it). It's in my bag just in case the F5 breaks. If you can get your hands on an F100 and get out of the N90 deal, do it. The F100 is a baby F5 and way more advanced than the slow-ass N90. I hate the fact that all these top end Nikons make you use specialized backs and cables, but the 90 is the worst of the bunch. With out the multi-function back, the 90 is pretty helpless, i.e. no multiple exposures without it.
I love the fact that the N90 cameras have no manual operation and you need a $70, 3.5 foot cable release to trigger it from afar.
Sorry, I have a love hate relationship with my Nikons. At least they pay the bills.

Well shit you have an F5 ofcourse the N90s is slow to you!!!! But i have rented the camera several times and for what i do i love it. I would love to buy an F100 but thats $300 more. I can't justify spending that extra 300 b/c i don't do profesional work as of yet. but i can tell you tha the instant i have the means an F100 will be in my bag. i don't think i will ever get an F5 they are way to big and heavy. even with the flagship speed it has its way to big.
but anyway ya thanx for making me feel bad about spending almost $700 worth of jumps >:(

I haven't used an F5, but I love F4s. Yeah, they are heavy, but they are also reliable and do damned near everything you could want. Another advantage they have over some of the other models is that they use standard (AA, I think) batteries. You don't have to worry about scrounging for some weird lithium battery in the middle of nowhere.
I'll probably pick up a used F4 as my next camera purchase. Just another $.02 for you, Viking.

I stick run-o-the-mill duracells in my F5. I can crank out 15 rolls or so on a new set of alkalines.
I hated giving up my F4, but I long for my F3hp titanium to this day. Going back even further, I brought my FM2 back from somalia in pieces, but I really wish that little puppy was still around.
And Viking, the F5 has really spoiled me and probably made me a little lazy. I used to think the F5 was too big and heavy but got used to it. You will usually find an 80-200 2.8 attached to mine when I am out on assignment--talk about big and heavy!!
Your 90 will be fun, I am just a prick. Get a nice SB26 if you can find one, an MF-24 (I think that's the one), the flash cable and you're set. Make some money selling the photos you hate (people always love the ones I despise) and upgrade later.
Film's cheap.
