Today brings sad news.
Saturday we lost a jumper Jason Krieg- jump master at Grand Lakes Skydive near
Celina Ohio lost his life in a CRW accident.
Jason and best life long friend Bruce (BO) decided to do CRW on the 3rd load
of the day Saturday, the winds were 12-18 on the ground, and 50-65 at 10,000
2 RW jumpers got out of the plane at their choosen exit point, and landed
without incident. Jason and BO exited another 2.5- 3.0 miles further south,
south west from that point..puting their exit point at nearly 4 miles from the
DZ.
no one really noticed them exit, and didn't see them until we heard the plane
making circles low, and to the east of the Drop zone....that is when we noticed
the pair now was nearly 2 miles east, north east of the drop zone, getting
close to grand lake saint marys, (1.5 miles north of the DZ) we got a chase
van to the spot within minutes, to find they had both gone into the lake 200
yards from shore, 2 boats were on them within 2 mins. and pulled BO out of the
water, BO was wearing a neoprene wet suit under his clothes to keep him warm on
the jump, here in Ohio it has been warmer than normal...but the suit was a good
idea since they would be under canopy at high alitudes for so long. (this wet
suit turned out to have saved his life, due to the protection from the frigid
cold water, and helped keep him a float)
reports from bruce says that jason could have landed safely, but choose to stay
with bruce to insure a safe landing for bruce, who had less experience. with
CRW...and water landings.
jason was missing from 3 PM saturday and searches stopped at night fall
saturday night... his body was found sunday at 10 am.
the pilot reports to have seen the pair running with the wind for a period of
time, no one know why, with strong uppers.
Jason had nearly 500 jumps and leaves behind a new wife of 5 months
and a 4 year old daughter, at the worst time of year, anyone that would like
to help with funreal expenses, or college fund for little Mina... please send
dontaions

blue skies...and be safe out there!!!

>student
>jump?
no it was not a student jump, it was a CRW jump.. jason and Bruce were life
long friends, jason only had a CRW rig at the DZ that day (not sure why) and
Bruce... had about 45 jumps or so, and they wanted to jump together, so Jason
asked if Bruce wanted to do CRW... while it was very windy... it was
within limits... the uppers were very strong, the grounds at the time of take
off were 12- gusting to 18... so not a day for long swoops, but not a day
where you would think much more then...maybe taking a longer spot.
2 RW jumpers got out at the normal spot, and made it back fine..
the 2 CRWs went out another 2.5 - 3 miles to exit.
it is reported they were seen running with the wind for awhile.. maybe in an
attempt to DOCK while during CRW, and just didn't notice how much ground they
were covering while running with the strong uppers. by the time they were in
sight, they were already downwind of the DZ.. nearly 2 miles. and they landed
in the frigid lake, and one of them had a neo-prene type body suit on, to keep
him warm jumping.. and that is what kept him a float, and kept him from
freezing up.
duck hunters saw them comming in, and had boats there within mins. but jason
went under, they didn't know much about skydiving , so they pulled on his
gear..thinking he would be attached to that.. but he had already gotten out of
his gear, and was swimming, a few yards away, they still pulling on his gear,
thinking they would get him..... he went under, and by the time they got
where he went under.. he could not be found.
