quade 4 #7 January 1, 2002 QuoteNow I'm just a written test, two Cross countries, and a check ride from complete freedom.National averages put solos at about 16 hours and checkrides at about 65. Where you at on total time?BTW, did your CFI cut off your shirt-tail or did you forego this because it was your, uh, second solo?Paulhttp://futurecam.com
freeflir29 0 #8 January 1, 2002 44.1 TT so far...That's a big negative on the shirt tail.....If I hit 65 hours and don't have a private yet I'm getting a new instructor....LOL Anybody that takes that long has to be riding to the airport on the short bus. The only reason I have this many hours and so little accomplished is an 11 year break after the 31 hour mark. I may very well come sorta close to that 65 hour mark......dammitt........Why did I ever join the military?????"I got some beers....Let's Drink em!!!"Clay

freeflir29 0 #10 January 1, 2002 I was in the Air Force from 91-2000. Spent the first three years as an aircraft mechanic till that bored the shit out of me. I threatened to get out so they offered me a new job. I spent from 94-2000 as a Forward Air Controller. Worked with the 101 ABN, 82nd, 2 ID, and a plethora of other units both US and foreign. Even worked with some ANGLICO guys. I think it was 5th (Reservists from Fla) and the guys from Lejune. We had to baby sit them when they came to Bragg cause they weren't "certified" on Bragg ranges....which are a major pain in the azz....The reservists were hilarious....I was with a FIC team and an Army BN Scout team at JRTC. Those damn Army guys about walked our legs off. 13 hours to get from where the Helo dropped us off to our OP. We were supposed to be out 2 days max.....5 days later I finally saw my truck and a sleeping bag again....I was pissed!!! LOL "I got some beers....Let's Drink em!!!"Clay

MiataDRM 0 #12 January 1, 2002 Clay, just keep the gerbils on the ground & out of the cockpit...you don't want them EXPLODING on the way down from altitude. :o)**I'm a Pschydiver!Majdi

Congrats Clay.....when you get in a long cross country, come on down to Florida....hey, maybe you can even talk the flight school(and Phil, too, I guess) into letting you stay for a day/night and jump with us down here.. If necessary, I can sign off your flight planning for the return trip since it would be on a different day......well, that is assuming that you can ACTUALLY plan! I started to pack the knife in my bag, then I changed my mind since it wasn't your 1st time.Actually, the national average is 72 hours. There are lots of reasons people take this long. The most common reason is dragging out the training. Some people drag it out because of weather, others because of lack of $$. I have a friend that knew he would have to take time off after the license so he didn't take the test for a while. He wanted to have a high skill level before the break. The Dutchboyhttp://www.geocities.com/ppolstra

Aviatrr 0 #16 January 2, 2002 Quote That's scary. My 1st solo wasn't until 1-4-91. My first solo(in powered aircraft) was not until mid '94.......at the ripe old age of 18.. Since then I've amassed 5500 hours, 4 type ratings(1 TP, 3 jet), and over 5000 hours of PIC time......and I STILL get that first flight feeling everytime I go up.. God, I love my job..
