Musings on New Years....

Recommended Posts

At the pub I went to for New Years: The guy onstage w/the guitar started playing Auld Lang Syne at midnight & everyone sang along.
In UK & USA & probably Australia & NZ as well, we do this every New Years. But has anyone ever been able to figure out WTF this song is about??!! Trouble is, by midnight everyone's too drunk to care.
The song goes something like:
Should auld acquaintance be forgot (hiccup)
And never brought to mind..
Should auld acquaintance be forgot.
We'll (something) auld Lang Syne....
WTF???
The only thing I know about this song is that it was written by Robert Louis Stevenson when he was really drunk.
But what the fuck is an Auld Lang Syne anyway?? Any guesses?

Clay is right. There is clearly some drunken babbling going on in this song (Sounds like this forum sometimes!)
Here's another verse:
We twa hae paidl'd in the burn
Frae morning sun till dine,
But seas between us braid hae roar'd
Sin auld lang syne.
Could that first line translate as:
"We twice have piddled in the barn"?
