I only have a problem with what I see as our overly-litigious society.Skymedic, its hard to say when people knew smoking was bad, but it was probably a long time ago. It wasn't until the 50's that scientists formally established causality, but the correlation between smoking and lung cancer had already been scientifically established since the 20's. And everyone pretty much figured it caused lung cancer just from the correlation results, unless you were a tobacco-industry propagandist. And this wasn't just a secret among scientists: during World War I (1914-1918) cigarettes were commonly referred to as "coffin nails."So it was pretty much intuitively obvious. I believe smokers do get signals from their bodies that smoking is harming them, and they don't need scientists to tell them. Smokers just choose to ignore it. There's a fifty-ish woman in an apartment on the floor above mine who smokes, and every morning (and other times as well) I can hear her hacking all the way down in my apartment.
