For keeping me excited!
I've been lurking for awhile now and I'm feeling guilty, so this is just to say hi. I made five static line jumps last fall and Simply Can't Wait to go all out in the spring. Coming here is keeping me pumped while I wait. I want to hold on to that heart racing, stomach churning, unable-to-keep-the-smile-off-my-face feeling, and the posts here do it! Thanks.

Ah, sometimes I forget why we're here. That's why. :)I got the exact same thing from dz.com back in August 2000, when I first started posting and jumping. Reading jump stories in the forums made my heart race. Welcome!
Pet me! I'm harmless and cute!

Ahhh, another BC skydiver! I'm in Victoria. Visited Vernon this past summer -- and I used to live in Kelowna! Welcome to DZ.com. I know the feeling you are describing -- we all do! Keep jumping, and make sure you get to Kamloops on the May long weekend... big skydiving event there - for skydivers of all skill levels.
And most of all, just ask away. This is a great place to share your feelings, get answers to your questions, and for just plain old "hangin' out" --- just watch out for Justin and Clay...

"DOOOORRR! *SWHOOOOOSSHSHSHSH* Ready, Set...GOOOOOooooo!"
From the mouth of AggieDave....he is SOOO on point! When I first heard the sounds of other skydivers going out...saw their faces....AND felt the feeling of freedom myself, i knew this was for me. And you know it too..you already exprienced it first hand. Keep going! you will do great!
What you "think" you cannot do ...you CAN if you "think" about it ;)

I must admit, you are further along than I am. I have only done two tandems, but I knew after the first one, how addictive this sport is! I'm really torn as to whether I should take the lessons to be a skydiver. Is everyone out there young? You see, I think a middle age person might not fit in or be at an age to START skydiving. I know there are a lot of older skydivers, but they have been doing it for a long time. My feelings; I can't hear a small plane go overhead without thinking about jumping from it, how exhilerating! I wouldn't be able to do anything until spring or at least until the weather is warmer here!

Wrongo! Wrong wrong wrong happily wrong. I went through AFF with two people who later became close friends -- one is 30, and the other is 40. I'm 25. We're tight.
Anyone is welcome. In fact, extremely young people are pretty rare -- simply because they don't make the cash you need to learn.
Go do it! Call tomorrow! (I'd say call tonight but the beer light's been on for a while and they might not be at their most coherent.)
On an aside -- forecast for San Antonio is SUNNY AND CLEAR AND JUMPABLE Sunday, after weeks of greyness. :)Pet me! I'm harmless and cute!

'a middle aged person might not fit in or be at an age to START skydiving'
Age is NOTHING- the outside doen't count; it's what you are inside-- your attitude will dictate how you fit in this craaazy sport-- I'm 45, holding momentarily at 125 jumps- my first static-line JM is 60-someodd and still quite active-- he out-parties a LOT of the younguns... besides, younguns are fun to jump with- come play when you get ready- we'll be here...

Tell me about this one.... I was shocked at how few nonmilitary jumpers there were at Lake Wales this winter. The Aggies had the largest population and that was like 8. Over all I'd say there were only 25 nonmilitary jumps at the DZ in the events out of I think 87 registered.
When people learn my age (21) they are shocked that I can even afford to jump let alone 255+ times in 16 months. I explain that its all budgeting and working my ass of to jump :)I want to touch the sky, I want to fly so high ~ Sonique

My friend Jessica is totally right on in her answer to this -- NO, you are not too old!!! I started when I was 36, and had been married for 14 years! Don't look back, man, look ahead!

Yeah, our club (Texas A&M Skydiving Club) is one of the largest non-military clubs in the nation, with something like around 30 members. There are maybe 10-15 of us that are fairly experienced, with some having a couple hundred jumps. There's guys like me with about 90 jumps and there's quite a few slowly getting through AFF. The main problem is $$. I know that's my problem, but we stick together and have fun. Well, hopefully the money problems won't be *as bad* once we're all out of school and have real jobs, but who knows.
You're never too old to start jumping. You'll catch up in jump numbers and experiences really quick, quicker then you realize. You'll make great friends and have fun times. God I love this sport. :)I went to a Grateful Dead Concert and they played for SEVEN hours. Great song. -- Fred Reuss

its good to see you finally posted- welcome but to all you "OLD" ppl heres a little known fact.
truth is the last verse to happy birthday was found written in hieroglyphics(?) [ancient writting] but scientists were baffled by this b/c the first traces of a civilization using ANNIVERSARIES of birth was rome. (which was not until an inch down the time line)
it is believed that the romans, who heard rumours of this last verse began singing it at the "anniversary of birth" parties.which is now known to have been a curse. with in 40 years of this tradition Rome fell.
they invoked an evil curse that turned them all into the remains of those who left the curse on the wall. causing rome to be weak and obsolete.
from what I understand you arent at risk if youve only heard the song a few times but if, on the day of your birth, these words are spoken to you you will become a little more a part of those who left the curse. and, rumour has it, if you hear this on your day of birth 88times you will PERISH!
so heed the warning i send you.
if someone begins the last verse of the birthday song, STOP THEM it could save your life.
(either that or i could just have WAYY too much time on my hands) :D:)
Have fun, LIVE FREE, Skydive

I've seen lots of people in thier forties and fifties start jumping and rapidly become better than some of those young pups, mainly because they can afford to jump a lot. And even if you NEVER get good at it as long as you're having fun it's worth it 'cuz that's what it's all about.
I started jumping when I was 24; my FJC instructor was 49, the JM on my first jump was 48. Age ain't nothin' but a number; as long as you are in reasonably good shape and have a desire to fly you can do this... and the young pups will not only accept and party with you, they'll likely be more than happy to go jump with you and teach you some of what they've learned.
