lazerq3 0 #1 January 8, 2002 So I was down at Elsinore on the 28-30th last month (where was everyone??) and on saturday on load 3 it starts to sprinkle a little. Not a big deal ....lets get going...... so we get to about 7000 ft when the pilot (carl. which was one of the coolest guys I met down there) says its raining on the ground...do you all still want to jump? Outta 22 of us 18 decide to go. We where first out in a 4way so we thought we're not going to back down. Plus we weere the only ones with open faced helmuts to boot!!!! so we climb out....(this aint bad)....and then launch the 4way.........HOLY SHIT WERE IN A DOWN POUR!!!!!!! THIS F#$%KIN HURTS !!!!!!! I've always heard about jumping in the rain and that it stung but this down right hurt!!!! so we break to do some 360s and I'm thinking screw this... Me and another jumper tracked out and pulled while the other two made a final redock and then tracked and pulled. We opened waaaaaaay off DZ but everyone was able to make it back. I think the reason I made it was because I dumped at 3500 instead of 2700. We went back to the hotel and spread out 4 wet canopies, turned the heat up and went to the bar!!!All in all a fun trip and some good jumping and I met some really cool people ...but where were the DZ.commers??I have a bunch of jjump ticks left over so I'm sure I'll be back sometime!!!!jason
AggieDave 6 #2 January 8, 2002 Yup, the rain sucks, huh? Did you have little red marks from it all over your exposed skin? My first rain jump, I went out in a sitfly wearing shorts and a t-shirt. Good jump, but I had red marks all over my arms, face and legs by the time I got down.Oh, btw: BEER! billvon 3,107 #4 January 8, 2002 I always get a kick out of people who make their first rain jump, and are positive it was ice - because water couldn't possibly hurt that much. Heck, I thought that too, until one day I _did_ jump in sleet.-bill von
dove 0 #5 January 8, 2002 Of course it hurts! When coming down you are hitting the pointy end of the rain drops!!!! So - what does it feel like to fly wet canopy? I always wondered about that. dove
cptnstratn 0 #6 January 8, 2002 Hey! I was on that plane, too! I was part of a three-way, exiting right after you. I had an open-face pro-tec on. And, I agree! IT HURT! My face stung for about two hours afterwards. I had to lay my chute out in the hotel to dry off in front of the heater, also. Had a long canopy flight back to the DZ. Sorry I missed ya! It would have been fun to hook up. Let me know when you're coming back!Blue Skies,SteveSteve
lazerq3 0 #7 January 8, 2002 QuoteSo - what does it feel like to fly wet canopy? I always wondered about that. weid14 0 #8 January 8, 2002 sleet really hurts, we were training in florida of all places and it looked like it had stopped raining so we were getting ready to jump (no more wet rivers down the side of the plane, we got out, and it was ice! looked over at the Outside guy, one side of him was totally ice covered, pretty funny to look at. We jumped in snow squall at altitude last fall too, (drizzle on the ground), the snow didn't hurt a bit
 dove 0 #9 January 8, 2002 We had snow at altitude on New Years Eve day at Zhills. Looks wild from the plane and then when it was collecting on my buddy's shoulders in head down (he had a black jumpsuit on!) Didn't hurt at all! A bit distracting though - in a good way!doveIt just occurred to me how that statement might strike a whuffo - being distracted while hurling toward the earth at 180 mph in the snow! Hehehe!
