flyhi 24 #1 January 10, 2002 On Ripley's tonight they showed two guys who filled 400 "party" balloons with helium, rode them to 18,000 feet with parachutes on, then rode them back down. 18K feet, sitting on a little chair with nothing around you, wearing a parachute (Vector), and riding it down. I just don't get it. At least the girls in the balloon bikinis made sense. Is it hot in here, or am I crazy? - Charles Mansonflyhi

Jimbo 0 #3 January 10, 2002 Sounds scarier riding them down then simply climbing out. They're going to get a point where it's no longer safe to dump even your reserve - then the fear sets in, I imagine.
spinmaster 0 #4 January 10, 2002 18000 ft...a chute on...open air? I didn't realize that ridding the chair back down was an option?

Pammi 0 #10 January 10, 2002 ROFL! That was what Merrick did...yelled and protested about how he couldn't believe they rode it down! Haha! Looked fun :) The first few hundred feet would be scarier then hell but otherwise a great time!Oh, and yes, they did have oxygen :) Some of the balloons actually broke as they got up higher because of the expansion. I wanted to try it until Merrick told me that this would've been a very expensive stunt. True?Closing pin jewelry
