Looking for Bruce Sully

Recommended Posts

I posted this on the rigging forum, but in case some of you don't go there much:
Not sure if this is appropriate for a gear & rigging forum, but I don't know what else to do at this point.
Has anyone seen or heard from a rigger named Bruce Sully, aka David B. Sully? He usually works (worked) at Skydive Delmarva. He's had my rig for a few months. He was going to sell it for me (said he had some buyers lined up) but I haven't heard from him in almost two months. And he's moved out of his old house in Laurel MD, and the two phone #s he gave me (one was his cell phone) are no longer in service.
I'm trying to buy a house & I had to sell my rig for part of the downpayment. So I really need to get the $ or the gear back soon. If you have any info about how to get in touch with him, or if you've even seen him in the last two months, please email me: twbrann@yahoo.com.

Wow! Sorry Speed I just heard about that. I have no clue how to reach him. Did you ask the Delmarva folks? They might know since there may be some legal action involved hence his being kicked out! But you should have known better to go to him! What - were you trying to play Russian Roulette? I'll see if I can get some info. I'll let you know.

Ok - heard he is staying in his trailer at Delmarva but they won't give him any messages since they are in conflict. So if I was you, I'd haul ass down to the dz this weekend and get my stuff in person. He won't be there long and he has no phone. Hope this helps! Good luck!

Last rumor i heard was that he was evicted from the DZ and his house. I dunno about the house part though. I have a cell phone number for him... dunno if it's the same one you tried: 240-535-0531. Let me know if it works cause he ows me a stack of jump tickets and some work on my rig (his old rig).

Sully is a strange agent. I met that guy a year and a half ago when my old lady was taking a course in Laurel, MD. I know that he lives there and rigs out of his basement. Ever since I have known and heard of him, he has been in trouble or under suspicion of wrongdoing. I do know for a fact that he assembled a rig for one of his customers and the guy asked him to test jump it. Sully dove out, flailed the entire freefall and rode it in till the Cypres fired. UnFuckingBelievable. My wife sold a rig to a kid up there who regularly jumps at CrossKeys. Andrew SomethingOrOther. Sully was the intermediary. We went to his house and immediately got the feeling that the dude was definitely not all there.
Anyway, next time you want to sell something, do it in the classifieds of this website and that at www.enclave.com. I have always had very good luck using these outlets.
Hope you get your shit back.

If I remember correctly, isn't he the "rigger" who could have killed several jumpers a few years back by stuffing the reserve p/c material on several Reflex's under the fabric p/c cover instead of under the hard top of the p/c as directed in the manufacturer's packing instructions? Luckily it was discovered before one of the jumpers had to use their reserve...

I am not sure what it was he did wrong (you could be right), but I was once lectured for about a half hour about why to avoid him. One thing I was told is he packed malfunctions into 2 reflex reserves within 2 months of each other, both of which could have been fatal if the reserves had been used. Reflexes are his specialty too. He packed my reserve. But hey, if you make the same mistake twice, what are the chances you'll make it again? :)

Thanks for all the responses, everyone!
Bruce Sully was recommended to me, I think, by someone from Delmarva over a year ago. I was calling around to find a rigger in the Maryland area so I wouldn't have to drive my rig 2.5 hrs to West Point, VA.
Sully has packed my reserve several times, & sent my Cypres in for its 4 year service. He has always dealt with me in a straighforward manner, even teaching me some things about canopies, rigging, etc. Of course, I never had to test out his reserve pack jobs!:o
Anyway, yes I already know how to get to his old house in Laurel, but apparently he has moved out. I have tried his old number, and the cell phone # shown above, and tried Delmarva, long before I ever posted this.
The home phone is being answered by whoever lives in that house now, who doesn't know where Sully is. And the cell # is disconnected. I talked to Brian at Delmarva & he said he'd pass the message onto Sully that I was looking for him. But evidently he didn't show last weekend.
Are you sure he's in his trailer in Delmarva? Noone has seen him, and it would suck to drive 2 hrs to Delmarva for nothing.

How could I have known?
Anyway, I guess I'm going to drive all the way out to Delmarva Saturday morning. Sucks going to the DZ when you can't jump (I'm talking to lenders now, so I'm trying to save $).
But its about the only thing I can do at this point.:( As far as I can tell, Sully has no real home (that I know of), no email, no phone, and he's obviously not bending over backwards to get in touch with me.

One and the same, Lisa. That was going on while my old lady was in school at Fort Meade.

Speedy -
I do believe that Sully owns that crappy trailer at the dz and that is why I was told he is staying there. I can't confirm that or promise anything - just what I heard. Hope is there, for your sake! Good luck, sweetie! I hope you get your stuff back! That guy stinks!

OK, new update:
Having no other option, I drove out to Delmarva on Saturday. Sully was in his trailer, packing someone's reserve. I told him I was having second thoughts about selling my gear. He had leant my gear out to someone whom he'd thought was intereseted in buying it, but when I talked to the guy he said, no he was just borrowing it!
Brian Kunkowsky who runs the place, was very apologetic over the whole Sully thing, even though I assured him it wasn't his fault. I couldn't jump due to the fact that I wasn't current, but Brian let me ride up in the cockpit of the Twin Otter. Weird being in a jump plane without a parachute on.
Anyway, Sully had my gear for 3 months & never sold it. So I reclaimed my rig & altimeter. I was just so happy that I was able to track down Sully & get my gear back.
I missed my rig! It was like finding a long-lost pet! Weird. Anyone else get sentimental over their rigs?
Now my rig is sitting in my closet at home after being unaccounted for for 3 months. And although I know I'll need the cash, its going to be hard to part with it. But this time I'll try to sell it through someone more, eh, reliable!

Glad you got your gear, Speedy!
I don't have a recommendation on who to go to for the sale of your rig. I wish I'd known your plans earlier so I could have saved you some trouble. I know a good local rigger, but I don't think he deals with buying and selling. Oh well. I'd think you could sell your rig through DZ.com or wreckdot.
Good luck!
Justin

Post it here on dz.com. I've know several people who have sold gear here with good results. I posted my old rig (yes it was tough to sell my first love but it bothered me more having her sit in the closet not getting any "air") and got an offer the next day. As soon as the check arrives I'm shipping her out. I just hope he appreciates her as much as I do.
