skybytch 273 #3 January 15, 2002 The only effect it's had on me is that it's a lot slower at work than it was this time last year, so I'm not going to ask for a raise right now... I just hate being told no! I did manage to start buying stock at the right time; I'm investing $20/week in WalMart and a NASDAQ 100 index and slowing making a little bit of money at it. pull and flare,lisa--

Keith 0 #6 January 15, 2002 You might want to look into IBM. I had a class project last semester where we had to invest in the stock market. I invested 20K in IBM and 3 months later had gained 7K. Not too bad. Keith
JDBoston 0 #7 January 15, 2002 Personally, I wouldn't invest in any tech companies right now without serious inside information (J/K...) or free money to gamble with. Most of the big tech companies are still trading at ridiculous earnings multiples even after the market decline, and as profits stay flat or decline, the multiple gets farther away from what it should be. I like mutual funds myself. Remember, if you're not losing money, you're making money....Joe
rgoper 0 #8 January 15, 2002 Zennie:i take it enron is not on your christmas card list? i know a lot of people who lost a lot of money on that deal, sad, good people too. my best wishes go out to all of those who contributed so much, for so little. they will pay, one way or another once the senate majority investigative committe finishes with them.Richard"Gravity Is My Friend"

ADRNALN 0 #16 January 15, 2002 Enrongate has made my job a bit tougher since I manage our pension and 401k plans. About a month before the Enron news hit the wires we had reviewed our company stock as an election in our 401k because of the Lucent stuff. Luckily we don't match in the company stock. I feel so bad for the employees of Enron who got screw by the execs. But it seems every couple of years a group of arrogant execs who think they understand something so much better than the rest of the world end up being proven they were wrong. They should take the profits the execs made on their stock trades, while the general employee population was locked out of their 401k plan and divide it up for the employees. Mr Lay is an arrogant piece of crap.
JDBoston 0 #17 January 15, 2002 Personally, I think all the Enron execs on the finance committee should do a few years in gen-pop in some medium-security prison. Then we can read a few stories about people going from C-level executive to someone's girlfriend, because they stretched every aspect of the law to line their pockets with money they don't even need, at the expense of loyal employees with mortgages and children. Yeah, I'd like that.Joe
Zennie 0 #18 January 16, 2002 QuoteOH! I'm so sorry Zen! What a mess THAT is! Heh, tell me about it. It's been a very interesting couple of months, to say the least. I lost a pretty fair chunk out of my 401K (not to mention my job), but not all of it. But that's all water under the bridge, as they say. I'm not particularly angry. That doesn't really solve anything (thought it won't break my heart to see some folks spending some time contemplating life at the Federal Pen). For me it's kind of become a game of seeing how deep the rabbit hole goes (to paraphrase The Matrix). The sick thing is it seems to go ever deeper & deeper...On the upside, some things are starting to happen on the job front so I'm fairly optimistic to have something in the next couple of weeks. Thanks again all for your kind words and support. It really means a lot to me. It's great to know I have so many good friends who are willing to offer their support when things go bad. Maybe someday I can pay it back somehow."Zero Tolerance: the politically correct term for zero thought, zero common sense."
chopchop 0 #19 January 16, 2002 GRRRRR... don't get me started - pre 7/2001 - my company - $10 million in gross revenues, 80 employees, almost no debt. 2002 - expected gross revenues short of $5 million, 34 employees, somewhere around $1.2 million in debt - all personally guaranteed. Damned economy cutting into my sleep, gear and travel money. AND.... I have to work now - with my hands - like 5 years ago.... Don't all cry for me at once. I'm only 37 - I can afford the humility and character-building experience this has been. Sucks though after 11 years of building to have my company decimated in 6 short months.chopchopPD makes canopies all day long, you only have one life, when in doubt, cut away...
