Missing my cesna!

Recommended Posts

The last few jumps I have had have been outa a suuper otter, and tomorrow (weather permitting) I'll be jumping out of a caravan till march. This may sound stupid but I'm starting to miss jumping outa our cesnas. (our DZ is closed for the winter). I miss being able to climb out around the strut like a monkey and stacking 4 to 5 people out at once!!! Call me crazy but ...........I WANT MY 182!!!!!!!:(. Coarse I imagine when we do open back up and I've been jumping the 182 and 206 I'll be saying damn I miss those big planes;)

I kinda miss jumping Cessnas too... you're not alone Jason. Hey, you can't really kiss an Otter pilot on your way out the door! The smaller group just seems more intimate to me too (no Clay, not that kind of intimate...)
pull and flare,

Not crazy at all. Been a year and a half since jumping and I can still feel the way those cesnas reacted to body movements. A student swings out onto the wing and the whole plane leans right. The student lets go and the plane wobbles around a little until it gets stable.
Hell. One joke my instructor used to play was that after the plane took off and had some altitude, he'd reach up and pull one of the wing's control lines that ran overhead through the cockpit.
The plane would tilt and it'd scare the shit out of a first time jumpers.
And can you batwing off an Otter? I don't think so.

But I'm kinda nervous that I wouldnt get out for enough and drop off and smack my head on the wheel !

The wheel on a cesna is right near the exit. You'd be hanging upside down in the middle of the wing, same place students do their hanging exits, so there's not really any chance of hitting anything when you drop.
I've just seen pictures of it done, although I got an instructor up in Indiana who promised to show me how to do it. One of these years I'm gonna look him up and take him up on that one.

well,it depends a lot on the pilot.
remember 5 of us in a c182 ,we couldn't get over 9000',(9500msl),told the a/c owner, who said "bullshit!, get in!).
the same 5 got in,he had us at 12500' in 25 mins!,got down, and gave the 1st pilot a flying lesson.
i'm no pilot, but apparently, settings, airspeed, trim, and a few other factors all have a lot to do with performance.
so 6pax on a 182 can get to height easily and quickly if flown right.
