Muenkel 0 #1 January 21, 2002 While on vacation in Florida this past December, I had the enormous pleasure of doing my first two tandem jumps at the Skydive Space Center in Titusville. Since then, I have had difficulty concentrating on anything but skydiving. Since I live in the mountains of New England, jumping right now is not an option. I have signed up for AFF for this May back at the Skydive Space Center. Any suggestions for this Newbie? What research can I do between now and then to better prepare me?"Give the world the best you have and you'll get kicked in the teeth...Give the world the best you've got anyway." -Mother Teresa
hooked 0 #2 January 21, 2002 I know exactly how you feel. I also did my first two tandems this summer and missed the opportunity to do another one in Eloy last month. I can't even hear a small plane go over, without thinking of jumping from it! My dilemma is, do I take lessons in the spring (when the weather is warmer)? I just am not sure because of my age (54). I wish I hadn't waited so long to try this addicting sport!
Muenkel 0 #3 January 21, 2002 You're never too old! Bush Sr. skydives in his late 70's!Every time I think of my jumps, I find myself with a really goofy grin on my face. I could be in my car at a red light and noone else in the car!!! I better get a skydiving bumper sticker so strangers will understand.
hooked 0 #4 January 21, 2002 Hey, I've got a bumper sticker and a license plate bracket, so I hope everyone understands! Bush only did the two jumps, he isn't going for any lessons!
QuickDraw 0 #5 January 21, 2002 "What research can I do between now and then to better prepare me?"Just keep reading these postsI have acquired so much knowledge from this site, that I am now concerned I might be TOO confident.Me and some friends have booked up for our AFF @ Sebastian in march, and I just can't wait now.But I still find all this information (even stuff I won't need) interesting.Good luck with yours anyway
 SkyDekker 1,465 #6 January 21, 2002 "What research can I do between now and then to better prepare me?"Pick up Dan Poynter's book. The title escapes me, but if you do a search in this forum for his name, I am sure it will come up. And look for a cheap apartment near the DZ if you live more than an hours drive away... and make room in your closet for a whole bunch of new t-shirts, and start saving up for all the beer you'll soon be buying...Don't worry, it ain't so bad -- we all did it!
