Skystorm 0 #1 January 22, 2002 As so many of you has quit smoking, I'm trying to.I've went from 20 cigarettes a day to only 3 or 4 in two weeks time.I'm eating sweets and sucking on lollipops like mad. Don't like the patch to much.Wonder what I'll do (when I go jumping again) when my nerves gets to me??Hang onto Heaven, when hell is on your back
skygeek 0 #2 January 22, 2002 Have you tried the gum? It worked for me. Also if you are craving that after jump smoke you can just pop in a piece of gum and its all cool.
AggieDave 6 #3 January 22, 2002 A few years ago I quite cold turkey from a pack a day to nothing. Will power, if you're not going to use the patch or anything. Try chewing gum (regular gum, not nicorrete, that's some nasty shit). Buy a few packs of gum and when ever you want to smoke, chew gum. Or with me, I just drank more and more coffee. Yeah, I know, sort of defeats the purpose, but I'm better with coffee now then I was, so, I'm better off either way. ADRNALN 0 #4 January 22, 2002 Years ago I did the same thing, went cold turkey. But I must admit I give in occassionally when I am out at the bars.
Skystorm 0 #5 January 22, 2002 It's not the after jump cig I crave, but the before jump cig.I get really nervous and start chain smoking. Worst is I can't eat anything before a jump, I get very, very sick. The only thing I do hold down however is ice.Hang onto Heaven, when hell is on your back
E150 0 #6 January 22, 2002 HEY GOOD LUCK. It will be one of the best things you will ever do. I'm one of those annoying people that smokes when drinking. Just been thought a bad (to me) spell and smokes about 5 a day for the last 4 weeks. I can see why people find it so hard to give up. I am gonna stop form NOW. I mean that. Thanks for starting this thread. From what I can tell, the people that 'go cold turkey' as it were. Seem to be the most sucesfull. They make that decision and stick to it. Do it, knowone can do it for you. DZ's are the worst place to get caught up in an unhealthy lifestyle. Sitting in the sun (OK, so not int he UK), smoking, then craking open the beer when the sun goes down. It's a hard routient to break, but thats all it is really. Once you have anew routine, that will become the norm. Smoking is fucking nasty.
AggieDave 6 #7 January 22, 2002 How many jumps do you have? I have a buddy who would throw up every morning of at the DZ until he had like 30 jumps. So he couldn't eat until after the first jump or he would toss it. Doesn't happen anymore, all he does is fart in the plane now.Success is how high you bounce when you hit bottom.-General George Patton-
Skystorm 0 #8 January 22, 2002 I'll bet that I'll also be one of those annoying people. Worst is my boyfriend still smokes. Although not as much as I do. But on weekends, going to clubs, he puffs away much more.I have 21 jumps now. Please tell me it would get better?Hang onto Heaven, when hell is on your back
E150 0 #9 January 22, 2002 Must admit.... If I were to be going out with someone I'd prefer him to be a non-smoker. Not for the smell or anything, but just because I would worry about him and it would make it harder for me.
scottbre 0 #10 January 22, 2002 QuoteI have 21 jumps now. Please tell me it would get better?I have 20 jumps now, and I stopped having stomach nervousness problems after about jump 15. You'll get over it. "Let the rabbits wear glasses. . . "
Skystorm 0 #11 January 22, 2002 Well, we've met as smokers. I'm only quitting because of my heart and asma (spelling?)He's not such a heavy smoker. Rarely smokes during the week, maybe 10 cigs a week, but weekends it tends to be more. For dear life, I hope this nastiness will end, soon or who knows what might happen? skreamer 1 #12 January 22, 2002 Jislaaik!!! Don't do that - when I saw the subject of your post I thought you meant quitting jumping.... Phew, glad to hear you are giving up a bad thing and carrying on with a good thing!! (just think of all the JT money you will save).
