freeflir29 0 #4 January 25, 2002 I wanted to go to Jump school from the time I cross trained to be a Forward Air Controller. I don't really know why...it just sounded fun! It did take me 4 years to do the civilian thing though. Glad I did....."I got some beers....Let's Drink em!!!"Clay

JDBoston 0 #6 January 25, 2002 Had a desk job and a relationship that was becoming quantity over quality. Life was too predictable. Basically, I wanted to prove to myself that I wasn't turning into a pussy. But of course I started to like it....Joe

koune 0 #10 January 25, 2002 Ah....I was starting to worry already !Our DZ has the "no drinking till 3PM" rule, which is a good thing! Do more DZ's (in the USA) have that kind of rules?

freeflir29 0 #12 January 25, 2002 "Do more DZ's (in the USA) have that kind of rules?"Well...Raeford has a bar so there are usually whuffos standing around drinking all day. You just can't take one past the fence. No drinking and jumping.....Kate will have your ass as well as many other people. The beer light once the last load leaves the ground is the usual thing...."I got some beers....Let's Drink em!!!"Clay
Tee 0 #14 January 25, 2002 My dad has been a pilot longer than I have been alive, so I basically grew up in the airplane. The hum of the engine was a good way to keep a baby asleep while flying. Those were the days where it was okay to have your 10 year old teathered in, pushing cargo out of the belly hatch to the guys fighting fires. Even then, the cargo chutes could hold up to 100 lbs and I used to bug dad to let me jump....I couldn't understand why he wouldn't let me.
SniperCJ 0 #15 January 25, 2002 I'm a certified adenaline junkie and this seemed to be one more way to get my fix. Also the gf had some friends who had stated jumping and were dragging her ot the dz where she lived so we started at the same time.Almost 3 years later and still going strong.CJ

nacmacfeegle 0 #17 January 25, 2002 I did a static line round jump to raise money for Amnesty International in the UK, this is quite a common way of doing the first jump over there, the charity gets some loot, and you get a free 'skydive'.What kept me in the sport was the promise of boobies, cuties, unlimited altitude, and free beer..........still waiting . And of course, jumpers everywhere, the world over, ae kick ass freindly, the camaraderie is awsome.
Keith 0 #18 January 25, 2002 For me it was the comradary (sp?) and passion people seemed to have for the sport. I never considered skydiving until I stumbled across wrec dot. It was very different back then and you could actually get some decent information out of people. I’m terrified of heights and decided I could never jump from a plane. I began to think about it a lot, and one day I decided to shit or get off the pot. I decided to do one tandem to prove to myself that I could actually jump from a plane. The rest, as they, say is history. Keith
Muenkel 0 #19 January 25, 2002 I guess mine is a bit more dramatic. Sorry for the Oprah story, but when I was 9, I was the victim of a violent crime (like attempted murder). This is too long to go into, but basically I spent alot of years fearing so many things. When I grew into adulthood I made the decision to stop being a victim and LIVE my life without fear. Last month I discovered skydiving, a sport not many people would have the guts to do. The result...I LOVE IT and I experienced no fear!!! Now I have decided to pursue this sport and love every minute of it.Oh, also, it is just plain cool...noone can argue with that!"I am a victim of my environment."Chris
hottamaly 1 #20 January 25, 2002 I have been dreaming about flying all of my life....When I found out it was possible, I was all over it And the people were an added bonus! Here I thought I was alone in my twisted ways, and now I have a big family! Skydiving really did give me a reason to live, being I have no kids nor husband, nothing to loose. Ya know what I mean? Then there's the cute guys, drinking, carousing, parties etc, etc. SKYDIVING GAVE ME A REASON TO LIVE....
AggieDave 6 #21 January 25, 2002 Well, I didn't have enough expensive hobbies, so I decieded I needed another one to use up all that extra money I had laying around...No, really, I always, as a kid, been facinated with skydiving that went even further after reading a crap load of military books where the guys jumped into where ever. It seemed like the thing do to. Success is how high you bounce when you hit bottom.-General George Patton-

skybytch 273 #24 January 25, 2002 Quote"I have no kids nor husband"How you doin......Give it up Clay... she has no kids or husband cuz she's SMART! I saw the Navy Leap Frogs do a demo when I was about 14... thought it looked like fun. Then saw an all female demo team jump into the Reno Air Races in '87... thought it looked like fun. Then saw Flight of the Dream Team on TV... thought it looked like fun. But I never would have done it if my b/f hadn't found a dz close to us and gone out to do a static line without telling me he was gonna jump. I about killed him; he was supposed to wait for me so we could do it together! So ever since I usually just say it's all Tommy's fault... pull and flare,lisa--
lummy 4 #25 January 25, 2002 I had just gotten out of a nasty relationship and was at a party with a bunch of skydivers. Well, either it was the beer or the notion of being "Free", but I ended up going on a rant about how I wanted to "LIVE". Needless to say, my friend called me on it. Best damned decision I didn't squirm out of
