scottbre 0 #1 January 27, 2002 Ok, so here's a question I would like to hear everyone's take on:What is the scariest thing you have ever done relating to skydiving? And you can base this on how scared you were then as opposed to how scary it might be in retrospect. However, if it is scariest in retrospect that is fine too.Mine would be signing that no fault liability waiver that very first time, before my first jump. Talk about scaring the crap out of you before you even get in the plane... "Let the rabbits wear glasses. . . "
FallinWoman 1 #2 January 27, 2002 My scariest is in retrospect only...the scary part is that I wasn't scared during...I did a three way, I think...Opened with mega line twists. I jump a Sabre 190, so not too scary. I just worked to kick out. And I worked. And I worked. And I worked. Finally was out of twists. Only then did I check my altitude. I was free of twists ( and unstowing my brakes) at just over 1000 ft.The scary part is that I did not even think to check my altitude during. Not the best series of decisions, but one hell of a learning experience.AnneWhat do I make? Teachers make a difference. What do you make?
Aviatrr 0 #3 January 27, 2002 My scariest skydiving related incident was at Atlanta FreeFlight a few months ago.. There were a few of us standing around drinking....and Clay tried to get this chick to flash us....but she said that he had to flash her first......and he did.. Seriously though, it has to be the first(and only, so far) CReW wrap I was in.. As I was docking as a wing on a 4 way diamond(looking up as I'm closing on my slot), I felt something under my feet, then saw nothing but canopy, then lots of tension on my left leg/foot while still shrouded in canopy.. Then we started spinning.. I couldn't see my canopy, so I couldn't tell what was going on with it and why we were spinning.. As it turned out, I had a line of the other canopy wrapped around my foot, the canopy pretty much collapsed, so I was supporting a lot of the other jumpers weight by my left leg....which caused a lot of weight shift in my harness, and the canopy started a spin to that side.. All this occurred in about 15 seconds....then, next thing I know, all the tension is gone from my foot, but the canopy I was wrapped in was climbing up into my lines while I still had part of it around my foot(that bastard didn't tell me he was gonna cutaway!).. Luckily, I got it untangled and was able to drop that canopy and not have to chop mine.. Even dropped it over the edge of the airport.. Mike
flyhi 24 #4 January 27, 2002 QuoteClay tried to get this chick to flash us....but she said that he had to flash her first......and he did.. Another senseless skydiver act committed on a dropzone. I'll bet alcohol was involved, too. Sometimes I just feel like Augie Doggie, "Oh, the shame of it all..."And if you don't remember, Augie was wearing a bag on his head when he said that. Designer 0 #5 January 27, 2002 Quess it,s the 2 Hurricane jumps I made.First one 200 miles form Hurricane in Va.Second jump at Deland when Andrew came through. Not very cool when you Back up and have no forward drive.MAKES SPOTTING A REAL ISSUE!The second jump I knew what to expect and it was mostly like a cross country. So,if you wanna get the pucker factor up do a Hurricane jump!(not suggesting it)
TheMarshMan1 0 #6 January 27, 2002 I never did a tandem for my first jump. Started right off with AFF. Not too scary I guess, but it sure seemed like it at the time!
Jumperpaula 0 #7 January 27, 2002 My first and only mal on jump 88. I handled it properly and quickly and stayed calm, but it was the most intense adrenaline I ever felt. Fly Your Slot !
skymama 37 #8 January 27, 2002 Well, I suppose it would be the canopy wrap I had on jump #26, when I wasn't even doing CREW! That made my little heart go pitter-pat! And, it was enough of a scare to make me quit for 7 months. So, the second scariest thing would have been forcing myself to get back into the plane after that. Emmie 0 #9 January 27, 2002 When I cutaway and couldn't find the reserve handle. I wasn't scared chopping my main, but when I couldn't find the other handle I was scared shitless!
skybytch 273 #10 January 27, 2002 The tandem side spin I was in. I was calm while dealing with the situation, but once we were under canopy I thought my heart was going to explode right out of my chest. pull and flare,lisa--Life is tough, but I'm tougher

quade 4 #13 January 27, 2002 QuoteWhat is the scariest thing you have ever done relating to skydiving? While shooting camera for a visiting 4-way team. At 4,000 they break, one of them tracks for ZERO seconds and deploys. We open facing each other 50ish feet apart and -just- miss each other as the canopy starts to fly.Oh yeah, I had lines twists a couple of times.Other than that, I remain "The World's Most Boring Skydiver"™.quadehttp://futurecam.com
