Welcome Chuter,
I also am new to this sport. Have done 2 tandems and am registered for my AFF in May. I find I want to learn as much as possible and have so many questions. I have emailed quite a few questions to the dropzone and jumpmaster I had my tandems with. They have been quite grascious, but I think I am driving them a little nuts. I am a complete sponge right now. I hate not being "in the know", so I want to learn all I can.
Anyway, this website will teach you alot. Everyone here is very cool and more than willing to share their knowledge. I have become a member of the United States Parachute Assoc. (which is required if you are going to get your A license.) The one year membership is only $46 and it includes a subscription to Parachutist magazine. Their website is www.uspa.org. I have also purchased the books; "The Skydivers Handbook" and "Mentally preparing for AFF and Life". Both are at amazon.com. I am in the processing of reading both and they seem to be very helpful. Lastly, I purchased the video "Kinesthesia". This order form comes with your membership info from uspa. I have not yet seen the video, so I cannot give you an opinion. Lastly, I rented the movie "Cutaway". Stupid film, but has great skydiving footage.
I probably gave you more info than you were looking for, but I hope it helps. Good luck and keep visiting dropzone.com. If you gain nothing else from this website, you will at least hear alot about boobies! :-)
