AggieDave 6 #1 January 30, 2002 My vacation in Quantico, VA has been moved to next summer due to some academic burbles that I flew through last sememster. Frustrating, though since I'm motivated to get up there and earn the Eagle Globe and Anchor and since I was going to use that money to purchase gear. Well, on the bright side, I'll have another year to get my PFT score up to 300, but now I'm probably going to have to start donating plasma and probably start selling stuff so I can get gear...Success is how high you bounce when you hit bottom.-General George Patton-
mnischalke 0 #2 January 30, 2002 I never had a 300 pft score. That damn run killed me every time. I had it down to 18:20 when I was 170 pounds within the first weeks of PI. Within 3 months, I was 190 and could barely get under 19 minutes. Ha ha, the kip. I could kip out about 100 pullups. Now they don't let you kip. 20 deadhangs can kill a man right before a 3 mile run.Sorry you won't be up here this summer. Bummer.mikeA bucket of Jet A can heat an entire county if burned all at once. diver123 0 #3 January 30, 2002 Hey AggieDave, if you're going to refer to U.S.M.C. accomplishments and awards, please do so with the appropriate respect. We do not call it an "EGA", it is properly referred to as an "Eagle Globe and Anchor". Abbreviating it is an incorrect form of expression, and therefore, disrespect. I'm sure it wasn't intended, but if you'd have done that in front of any real Marines, they would've had your head! At least they should've anyway. Oh, and good luck with your efforts on getting that 300! Once you get it you better never settle for anything less!!! "pull high! It's lower than you think..." diver123 0 #5 January 30, 2002 Since we're posting our PFT results, I recieved honors at grad for company high PFT (356), and subsequently never received below a 300 during my entire enlistment... I know what you're thinking (the score tops out at 300, a 360 is impossible) UNLESS you're competing for that high pft in bootcamp. Then they do an "actual" score based on your actual results. 16:50 on the run, 128 crunches, and 27 dead hangs... just for the record. "pull high! It's lower than you think..." AggieDave 6 #6 January 30, 2002 300 is of course the goal, I ran a PFT this morning and got a 244, so I have quite aways to go. Yeah, I'm a bigger guy, the run kills me. Atleast you can do the pull-ups overhand or underhand, but it would be much easier if you could still kip. Now, if only the PFT included Deadlifts and Squats...THEN I'd have a kick ass score...Success is how high you bounce when you hit bottom.-General George Patton-
AggieDave 6 #7 January 30, 2002 Damn, ok, I could keep up with you on the run for about the first mile, then I would fall over in a spewing mess, convulsing in pain...or I might be lucky and merely pass out. diver123 0 #8 January 30, 2002 A bigger guy eh? What does that have to do with it? At the time I was 6'1 and weighed 215... Not huge by any means, but definitely not small... "pull high! It's lower than you think..."
diver123 0 #9 January 30, 2002 Dude, just push yourself with your training... I know it sounds cliche' like, but running is seriously 90% mental... And that's what being a successful Marine is all about: Being mentally tough... I'm sure you'll do fine. "pull high! It's lower than you think..." AggieDave 6 #10 January 30, 2002 I'm 6'1" and weigh about 240lbs it's still a lot of weight to move, even though I am in shape. Basically my aerobic PT sucks even though I've really been busting my ass on it, so its turning out to be a good thing to have another year to train.Success is how high you bounce when you hit bottom.-General George Patton-
AggieDave 6 #11 January 30, 2002 I'm fairly mentally tough, you have to be to lift the kind of poundages I do in the gym, since that's a mental game too...Success is how high you bounce when you hit bottom.-General George Patton-
diver123 0 #12 January 30, 2002 240??? I saw your pic about a week back on another thread here... You didn't look tiny, but 240 is seriously a lot of meat to pack on a frame of 6'1" and I remember you saying you were like 13% as well... That would make you very muscular at 240... Hmm... I could be wrong, but I trained for about a year (24 hour fitness) on the weekends while I was in and developed a pretty decent eye for stuff like that... In any case, you're right, 240 pounds would be a lot to move over three miles. You know you're going to have to get down below 220 before they'll let you in right? To give you a visual rep: Ray Lewis, linebacker for Baltimore, is 6'1" and weighs around 250. That man is huge! "pull high! It's lower than you think..." diver123 0 #13 January 30, 2002 I hate to do this (cause it sounds like a pissing match), but you keep commenting on things I enjoy so I can't help it... No beef K, just making conversation. So give me some of your numbers? Bench, squat, whatever... What's like a 4 rep max weight on each one of those for you? "pull high! It's lower than you think..." AggieDave 6 #14 January 30, 2002 Yeah, I know, the Gunny at the OSO has been riding my ass about that. Actually, yes, I am roughly 240lbs, varies up and down depending on water, etc. Though I weigh alot, I'm not huge by any standard, something like an 18" neck/18" arms/49" chest...I thought you could get a waiver if you were over the weight limit, but within other standards, am I wrong?Success is how high you bounce when you hit bottom.-General George Patton-
diver123 0 #15 January 30, 2002 Yeah, you can get a waiver for weight, but you'd take some heat in boot camp for being...eh...um..."thicker" I guess you'd say. I did see some seriously fat dudes come in way out of shape and leave pretty lean. As a matter of fact, one dude lost like 35 or 40 lbs in three months! He slimmed down so much that his parents were crying at our graduation out of pride. "pull high! It's lower than you think..."

AggieDave 6 #18 January 30, 2002 That happened to me in the Cadet Corps at A&M, I went in a total fatass at 230+lbs my fish year and lost around 40lbs first semester, crazy stuff, but cool Success is how high you bounce when you hit bottom.-General George Patton-

diver123 0 #20 January 30, 2002 So you started at (we'll say 230 for arguements sake) 230, lost 40 lbs (down to 190 and lean I'm sure) and then back up to 240 with muscles??? You gained 50 lbs of muscle??? Okay, I'm going to have to call B.S. here... :) At 240 with 13%, you'd be a big muscular mo fo! I'm talking at least 20" guns (probably more like 21 or 22), well over a 50" chest and so on... "pull high! It's lower than you think..."
AggieDave 6 #21 January 30, 2002 No, I lost 40lbs, it was actually unhealthy for me, I looked like a gangly stick. Went back up to about 220lbs during Christmas break from eating too much and ended the school year at about a fairly lean 210lbs. I've been busting my ass for the past 2 years in the gym and I'm up to 240lbs. I've seen that vary as much as 5lbs between different weeks depending on a few factors (water, stress, beer, etc). Last I was tested (9pt caliper by a registered nutritionists) I had roughly 13% (if I remember correctly, it was something like 13.1 or 13.2) body fat. It wasn't like this happened all over night.I admitied that I'm not huge by any standards, I'm just telling you what I am. Professional (yes, not 100% accurate but usually accurate to within atleast .5%) tested body fat. Last time I measured (last week) I had an 18" neck, 18" arms and a 49" chest.*shrug* who knows, all I know is that I'm not Jay Cutler or Ronnie Coleman...yet I wouldn't bullshit you, I have no reason to, nothing to gain from it, anyways I'm not the kind of person to lie.Success is how high you bounce when you hit bottom.-General George Patton-
diver123 0 #22 January 30, 2002 Sorry if it sounded like I was pointing fingers and asking you to get on the stand for cross examination. It was more like a "bull shit" amongst a couple of drinkin buddies who were telling stories. If you say it's the turth, then I believe you. I have no reason not to... If you've worked that hard (and believe me when I say I know how difficult it is to stay in the gym for 2 years), then congrats my friend. That's one hell of an accomplishment. "pull high! It's lower than you think..."
AggieDave 6 #23 January 30, 2002 Ok, cool. To be truthful, I was starting to get irritated, I thought you were honestly trying to say I was lying. Lifting weights is almost like skydiving to me in how its changed my life and is a very big part of my life now. Like skydiving, I think that just about everyone should try to find some sort of excersize that motivates them, something to keep them fit and healthy. Too many flat out fatasses out there, just run to Wal-Mart or your local mall if you need reconformation.Ok, check this out: http://home.texoma.net/~dlund/commandopain.jpg That is a picture of me (I'm the one in the middle holding the canteen) at the end of my fish year weighing about 205-210lbs. Heres another one from a bit over a year ago (sorry these are the best pics I could find right quick) pushing at a Midnight Yell: http://home.texoma.net/~dlund/z.jpg I'm the one on the right with my tongue out. diver123 0 #24 January 30, 2002 Nothing to get irritated about big guy... It's all good. On a side note, be prepared for much worse if you hit up boot camp even a little chubby... Those guys are relentless and the second you give them any reason (like getting a little irritated), they'll ride you for three straight months! Oh, and one more thing to help out during boot... Just keep in mind that it's a big game to them and don't take anything personally. If you can do that, you'll make it through without a hitch! It's the guys who go in and think the D.I.'s really hate them that crack under the pressure and drop out. Good Luck with it. Maybe the next time I'm out in Texas for work (March I believe), I'll try and swing by the DZ for a jump or two and a beer? Blue ones. "pull high! It's lower than you think..." AggieDave 6 #25 January 30, 2002 Some beer sounds great! Yeah, mind fuck games, fun stuff. I had a small taste here in the Corps, but I know it will be more intense there. In those situations I understand that all it is is a mind game, it was just in here I was taken a bit off guard, ya know?
