First Time-Share yours?

Recommended Posts

Take time to reflect on your first time.
Mine came today.
After years of wanting I made the drive to SkyDive Houston in Waller.
Tandem out of a Super Otter.
I am still kinda speechless.
Perhaps tomorrow I will be able to speak!
Send me your thoughts and memory of your first time?
Jim

My first time, I was 16 years old. I had grown up around Skydive Deland. Every Sunday my father would go flying and I would go watch the skydivers. One day during the Ballon Races they had out there every year, a gentleman know to me as fang came up and started talking to me after he landed from a jump. We spoke for a while as he packed. When he finished he stood up and said, you ready to make a tandem? I told him that I wanted to but I couldnt afford it. His reply was thats not what I asked I asked if you wanted to go. I told him I did. He show me where Manifest was and told me to make sure I told them I was 18, when they asked me for ID he vouched for me. The next thing I knew I was skydiving!!! It took me 10 yrs to get back to do AFF but I kept that promise to myself. Fang introduced me to what the skydiving community was and still is all about and Ill never forget that. I understand that his life ended in a plane crash however Ive never found anyone to confirm that. Ive experienced many things in my fairly short life (Im 31 now) but none can replace what Ive gained through skydiving. It hard to explain what the skydiving lifestyle has done to me and for me. to say I am better for it will have to suffice

my first time was static-line. I only had three seconds w/out chute, but I thought it was the greeeeeatest thing ever, so I did another jump that day, two the next weekend, four the next, and so on. I hope you are financially stable...

First time.....I still smile thinking about it! It does leave you speechless. I guess I was apprehensive (not really nervous) on the first jump. Maybe because I wanted to do it so much, that I was going no matter what! Nothing compares to freefall and then the quiet peaceful ride under canopy! Of course knowing you have landed safely, big smile on your face, you say......I want to do this again, and again, and again!

on my first jump, i did almost everything wrong. it was an iad from a 182. i was fine all through the course, the plane ride was smooth, my climb out was great, then i looked down and i think my brain stopped. i was looking down instead of at the plane so i tumbled forward. the jumpmaster said i started running in midair trying to get stable again. i forgot to count. once my canopy opened, things came back to me and i checked everything out, did my control checks and had a great time. i flared a little early and came in a bit hard and fell over backwards on my ass. couldn't wait to do it again!!! :)"Jumping out of planes for the thrill of it all."

May 1996. Friar DZ, Ft Benning Georgia. C-130, T-10C, 1200 Ft. I stood up in my harness in amazement that I was still alive. Then the Company commander started yelling at me for standing up without cutting away one side. It took me a few seconds laying there to remember what the heck I was supposed to be doing....:)"I got some beers....Let's Drink em!!!"

Let's see... hmmmm... my first time. I was 16 and at a party as a friend's house. He had an older sister who had bought the beer. We started playing spin the bottle with her and 2 of her friends... Oh, I don't think I should go into all of this here. Are you sure we should all talk about our first times?

My first (and second) jumps were tandem, this past December while on vacation in Florida. I jumped at Skydive Space Center in Titusville. I knew I always wanted to try it, but no one I knew ever did it and I never got around to it. It was a spur of the moment decision. I booked it one day and jumped the next. I can honestly say I did not experience an ounce of nerves. I was at total peace. I have done alot of public speaking and performing and always was nauseous ahead of time. My skydive awakened something in me. I could not stop smiling. I booked a second tandem and it was even better. Once again, no nerves. I have now booked my AFF back at SSC for this May. During this wait period, my mind is constantly thinking about skydiving and I have questioned myself if I will go through with it. Then it occurs to me, that I could not, NOT go through with it.
Also, the bottom line is...it's just plain cool.

Clay, I might toss in a case for someone who buys it, but about the other stuff. If I could walk to the DZ from it, land on the roof and party there afterwards with strippers, would you think for even a second that I would sell it? Come on, you should know me a little better than that by now.
