Extreme sports channel

Why is it that despite it's name, Extreme Sports on Sky Digital has very little (if any) skydiving on it? It's all skateboarding and bmx. It's weird when you think whuffos think BMXing is normal but skydiving is 'crazy and extreme'. We need more skydiving on TV !!! How about creating a dropzone.com channel HH? :) Support the cause - do a skydive(r) :)

Where you aware that the only reason TV shows exist is to fill the gaps between commercials?
With that as the basic concept . . . think about the target market for each type of program; BMX v. Skydiving. Think about how large an audience there is for each type of program and how many bikes v. rigs you could potentially sell.
This is only one of many reasons there is very little coverage of skydiving on TV.

Because it's still all about advertising and skydiving (Unless there are injuries) doesn't seem to hold the attention of the modern viewer. Essentially the same reason that ESPN kicked it from the X Games.
It sucks, but that's the way it is, for now.

The reason skydiving is not really popular to audiences is that the only way to really view the events is on video...you cant really watch skysurfing or freeflying or rw live. On the other hand i think they should add swooping to the x-games or maybe para-ski to the winter x-games. any thoughts?

ps. just finished watching More Stuff on the Good Stuff DVD...skydiving seems to be pretty popular on commercials....

I believe that swooping might be more successful than skyboarding, freeflying, or RW with regards to a television audience. Swooping has a lot of what the TV audience is after, and it can be viewed 'live', without edits and delay. The splash factor in swooping could be similar to a crash in NASCAR. Yes, swooping could work. Who knows, maybe someday soon.
And that Ladies and Gentlemen was #300. :)

I have gone into this with a channel here in australia.
They seem to think if footage is not recorded on at least a 3 CCD camera, it is not broadcast quality and won't be able to be shown!!
We have a channel here called SBS which is the multi cultural channel. They have shown skydiving comps from russia!!
Freemind, freesky, freebeer, freefly, freesex

The term "broadcast quality" is meaningless hype. The trouble is that most people, even in the TV business, can't tell hype from reality.
A Sony TRV10 is -WAY- better than the quality of a lot of "broadcast" cameras I shot with 10 years ago.
The fact is that the less important the content of the material, the more important the quality of the material becomes. In other words, if you had the modern day equivalent of the Zapruder film but shot on a one chip crappy VHS camera, I can assure you it would suddenly be ok to broadcast it. Conversly, since most sports programming is pretty inconsequential, the quality of the footage becomes pretty important.
