ADRNALN 0 #1 February 1, 2002 I finally sent in my paperwork after being done in July. I was so siked I ran around my apt. like a moron and Iam thinking about adding "A-40154" to my tattoo.
Emma 0 #2 February 1, 2002 No...don't do that...It would be ...regrettable .Congrats, btw!I still haven't sent off for my C License! My little red book still says A.....Better sort out my life I guess...
freeflir29 0 #3 February 1, 2002 Yeah...at least wait until you get a D. That won't ever change......."It's the cans..they're defective. Stay away from the cans"-Steve MartinClay
LawnDart21 0 #4 February 1, 2002 I agree with Clay, if your gonna tattoo your license number, wait until you get your D license. Even then, I'd only tattoo the license number if it was a cool one, like Nate Pond's (D-69) or his son Gary's (D-6969). But that is just me. Skydiving is all about personal expression, if you want to do the A licnese, then I say go for it. I've got an idea for a tattoo that I'm waiting on at the moment. For my 30th birthday (2 years from now), I am going to make a 30,000ft high altitude jump in CA (I've made 3 from 24,000ft, but I want to try 30,000ft with bail out oxygen). The plan is to dump out at 2000ft. If all goes well, I plan on getting a tattoo of a "halo" with the letters "H.A.L.O." under it and the date I did it on top. I've read Seals dump out much lower than that, like 800-1000ft on halo jumps, but hey, safety first right? LOL It's kind of goofy, but like I said, skydiving is all about self expression. Cheers and safe skydives!Blue Skies to all and to all a good flightTom

ADRNALN 0 #6 February 1, 2002 Now that sounds like an awesome idea. HALO!Okay the more sane in the group have pulled me from my cloud, I don't think my A# needs to be print on my body forever. Hopefully I will only use it for the couple of months at the most.
LawnDart21 0 #8 February 1, 2002 Okay, so I'm a self professed civilian......the only info I have on Navy Seals and HALO jumps comes from the Discovery channel and the movies "Navy Seals" and "G.I.Jane"...LOLSo, I'll ask then, how low does a Seal typically open on a halo jump?Good call on the A-License!I know alot of freefliers have the Mirage alien logo tattoo. it is a pretty cool one. SkydiveMonkey 0 #9 February 1, 2002 I was a DZ before and they had a load of US marines jumping there with us out of the LET, and the 13000' (open at 2500) jumps counted as HALO they rekon. Support the cause - do a skydive(r)
 freeflir29 0 #10 February 1, 2002 "So, I'll ask then, how low does a Seal typically open on a halo jump?"HALO jumpers normally open at 4500 Ft. If you think about it...there is not usually an advantage (unless trying to dodge radar) in opening low. A 350 sq ft canopy makes one hell of a rackett when you open which compromises you. It's better to open high and fly in under canopy. Depends on the mission I guess but I do remember hearing about "The 1st" combat HALO jump in Vietnam with an opening of 1500 if I remember right. Safety Safety Safety!!! But...when you are wearing full equipment IE..ruck, weapon, O2, stinger missle, etc etc...this becomes a skydive full of risks. Plus...in the military you are not landing in a field next to a hangar. If your lucky it is a decent size field but at night, with NO LIGHTS. No wind sock (maybe some Chem lights with an arrow in the wind direction, maybe nothing) Better to open a little higher and give yourself time to work any problems with your opening and then as much time as you can get to scope out the landing. HALO is NOT skydiving. The only similarity is that you are falling out of a plane and opening a parachute. "It's the cans..they're defective.
