Where are all the OUTS??

Recommended Posts

Okay, sorry to all you "none Deland" folks, but.....as I am preparing for a trip down there, I suspect this place will have good feedback from the regulars and those of you that have jumped there.
I am looking at over-head shots of the DZ. It doesn't look like many outs. Are the images deceiving? Also, I see a lot of H2O....any water within the one mile radius? I assume one is not required to wear floatation devices there, right?
Thanks again!

Matt,
I'll help you with this one too. I have done almost 100 jumps in Deland, and I have never, ever landed out. First, we have some damn good pilots there. Second, there are plenty of grassy places for you to land. If you don't land in the three fields in front of the building, there's a whole student area out behind the buildings to the left (help me out with my directions, Dave).
Now, don't go thinking, "yeah, but Skymama is a kick ass canopy pilot, that's why she never lands out". That is far from the truth, and everyone who knows my canopy skills, or lack thereof, is probably laughing pretty hard right now.
Trust me, you'll be fine.

I don't remember much about your canopy control skills.

You were just too dazzled by my sexy body and sparkling personality, to pay attention to my canopy skills, huh?
(damn, I couldn't even write that with a straight face!)

Thanks for the assurance! Should be in the area between 2/24 - 3/4. Looking forward to checking out your "canopy skills" too...especially your "S-turns".
Bringing a couple of other dz.commers...should be a good time, as we are all looking forward to the Skyvan's rear exit and beer light activities!
Peace!

Oh my God, do you guys have NO mercy on me today?
Don, the plane wasn't THAT close! And Dave,....lol...I don't even know what to say...I wouldn't put it past all my "friends" to do that! If I'm going to make you money, you better at least buy me some beer!

There are plenty of outs at Deland, as long as you make a decision above about 1,000ft.. I have landed out there three times....twice on Hwy 92 in the center divider just south of the airport, and once in a parking lot.. Those were all on kinda shitty weather days(clouds), so we got out wherever we could.. Most DZ's I've been to have fewer outs and smaller landing areas than Deland..
