Jump For The Cause-Boobies!!!!

Recommended Posts

Lara,
It was very inspiring to read your post! As a scientist who has worked on cancer research off & on for years, I love to hear it when cancer survivors tell their stories. A woman in my lab had breast cancer & got cured too.
The public really needs to hear that cancer is not an automatic death sentence, that in many cases (in fact, MOST cases with breast & many other forms of cancer) cancer IS curable.
Much of the public still persists in shying away from people w/cancer, thinking there is no hope. It pisses me off when I hear ignorant people saying, "Well, we're no closer to a cure for cancer than we were thirty years ago!" People like your mother need to be heard & the public needs to be educated.
Right now I'm working on a project using a genetically modified adenovirus (the common cold virus). We are using a promoter gene in the virus that allows the virus to replicate in tumor cells, but not in normal cells. So the virus will spread through all the tumor cells & kill them, but then stop if it infects a neighboring healthy cell. :)Keep fighting the good fight!

Thanks so much for the input and keep up the great work you're doing. Let's try to keep this post going to get even more people aware and educated.

Please, please do! There will be other survivors on the load and more on the ground guaranteed. Being able to meet those who've fought it and won will make the jumps and all the fund raising mean even more to everyone involved. :)pull and flare,
lisa

Good for you, we do need to spread the word that it is survivable.
My best friend had to have a double mastectamy last year and she was on the record in 1999 and will be there this year. Kudos to her and her strength.

Why should that be a different post? What better area of posting, you kicking cancer in the head, than on this one where we are trying to acomplish something. Celibrate your 5 years with all of us.
thanks for the input...

5 years is very significant in oncology: If you go 5 years without a relapse of the cancer it's generally considered a cure

Yup.....My birthday is march 8th, my skybirthday is march 10th, and my 5 year anniversary for kicking it is march 20th.....my daughters birthday is the same day too....
