Masterclaude 0 #1 February 6, 2002 Dear everyone,I have to write a physics coursework for my alevel about parachutes. My teacher wants to write about different canopy shapes, how they behave differently and explain the various behaviours, especially the physics to it. So far I have not been able to find any material on it, apart from why a elliptical canopies turn faster. Does anyone know help? Thank you very much,CC
PhreeZone 20 #2 February 6, 2002 Look in the Gear and Rigging fourm. There is a lot of info on how canopies fly and how stuff like Crossbracing works.Murphy's Laws of Love - If the person isn't taken, there's a reason for that...
mountainman 0 #3 February 6, 2002 Also, check out some canopy manufacturer's websites. From what I've seen, they have some basic and advanced explainations of how/why they fly.And if I'm not mistaken, Brian Germain wrote a pretty descriptive book/manual about it. I think it was for the Jedei. Good luck with your paper!JumpinDuo.com...come and sign the guestbook.
flyboy62000 0 #4 February 6, 2002 Find yourself a copy of The Parachute Manual by Dan Poynter. There's two volumes. Vol. I is mostly round parachute technology and Vol. II is mainly newer ram air canopies. They have loads of detailed info on canopy design, construction, and flight characteristics. There are other books out there, but the Poynter's manuals are the most complete source of information on parachutes.Blue Skies,Adam
