What a bust....

Recommended Posts

OK, so the weather in NY is beautiful for once....But silly me, instead of driving 5 hours down to The Ranch to jump, I figured I'd check out this little place I heard of thats only an hour away called Finger Lakes Skydivers...supposedly they have a Porter and a 182. Sooo, I get in my truck and drive down there. Well, "there" is an overstatement. There was one house looking building that I guess was the restaurant/gear store. It was unlocked and completely empty except for a bunch of pictures. There were about 8 aircraft there, all stored in hangars that were once barns...and I dont think any of them were airworthy. The only people in sight were two amish dudes plowing fields (dont ask me why, its the middle of winter) with horses. Oh well...that rules out jumping for me this weekend. No biggie I guess....next time I'll drive the extra 3 or 4 hours and go to The Ranch or Cross Keys. I'm just curious though...has anyone on here every jumped there? It looks almost abandoned...Hope you're all having a good weekend with lots of jumps!!!! :)Blue skies,
Marshall B|

Heh. Picture a skydive gone wrong. Total malfunction, student can't find the reserve. Fat guy in a toga looking to the sky holding a beer seems to be honoring his friends almost certain death.
Ahh hell - words just can't do it justice. It has to be seen.

I jumped in the upstate New york region all summer to January. They jump year long in Rochester, and they're not a bad group of people to jump with (http://www.rochesterskydivers.com/).
The fingerlakes will run loads if enough jumpers get together. The porter is not there for the winter months though, so you're jumping out of a cessna. Call the DZ (1-800-SKYDIVE) to see if they plan on running loads. Again these too are great people to jump with as well.
Welcome to NY, the jump season runs from April to November for most DZ's. My advise is to suck it up, go to Rochester, and jump in the cold weather. It's not bad, though I do wear a full-face helmet, so that probably makes all the difference.
Of corse now that I moved to Cali...

Did you happen to call before driving all the way there? LOL!!

Well...no...lol. BUT, last weekend (or the one before) they were jumping (heard the pilot on the radio) and it wasnt nearly as nice as this weekend, so I assumed (I know, thats bad bad bad) that they would be jumping. Oh well....nice day for a ride anyways...:S And, yeah Jayboz, I plan on trying out Rochester Skydivers pretty soon...maybe I'll see you there! :)

I dunno, LA is quite a way away from Rochester ;). I used to reside in New York, for 23 years actually. But as of last week it's been California, at least for the next six months. :)
