Whats in your cd player!!

Recommended Posts

This has been done before, however it a timeless thread. What have you been listening to lately ( hidden agenda to expose a seldom heard yet great band ) ? I’ve been on a constant rotation of THE SHINS. They kind of sound like the beach boys meet some sort of whatever is cool now shit, and they rock. Grab your favorite music stealing software( Audio Galaxy is my choice), head over to amazon.com for the track list, and check this band out. Other than the Shins I’ve been prepping myself for the RODEO, will be seeing Willy Nelson (about freaking time) and B. Dylan. After 15 years of living in Houston these shows will be my first time actually entering the Astrodome, that’s wack.
Notable mentions
Steve Earl (local Austin Bad boy country rock)
The Weakerthans ( Punk Rock country fusion Dejuer)
Bad Religion ( getting back to my roots ).
Pink Floyd, Relics.

Right now: Megadeth, "Cryptic Writings". It seemed appropriate for Valentine's day.
I've been listening to a lot of Primus recently too. It always seems to put me in the mood to skydive.
Hold on, almost everything puts me in the mood to skydive. Nevermind.
Ooh, there's another good CD. "Nevermind".

I have a partial list of music on my website. I've only converted and catalogued about 120 out of about 800 CDs. That page has thumbnails of album covers, so it will be deathly slow over a modem.
Recently, I've been throwing the following bands into the shuffle:
Portishead
Death in Vegas
Moby
Grateful Dead
Velvet Underground
Propellerheads

Mixes I make on my CD recorder. You guys gotta get one of those. I used to almost kill myself about 5 times a day switching CDs while I was driving so I could listen to one song on each of them. And what's on the CDs? 80's rock, baby:
G'N'R
Warrant
Boston
Journey
Bruce Springsteen
etc.
You know, all the good ones.

I'm going to get an MP3 player at some point. Anyone have a portable one they'd recommend?

I have a Riovolt and they are awesome. It's a CD/Mp3 player, and probably the best one out there. Fill a CD with Mp3's or WMA's and you've got at least 10 hours of music on one CD if not more. Plus, the damn thing is firmware upgradeable so it never has to get obsolete or out of date. I have the first generation one with a 2 minute buffer, but there are newer ones out (I think they are black) that have like an 8 minute buffer. They are sweet. It's my favorite non-skydiving toy. :)"Let the rabbits wear glasses. . . "

depends what you want it for... i got the missus a nike psaplay thing, very light weight, batteries last good without the remote, 64mb ram, good for over an hour of music (depending on format, it plays mp3s and wma's) and it looks cool when you wear it on your arm. she wears it to the gym and everyone thought it was a cardiac monitor or something. it's based on the rio, so by extension i guess they would be good too. if you don't bounce around much, the cd based ones hold a lot more, and i guess there are actually micro hard drive based ones as well, but i wouldn't think they would be as durable as the memory based ones.
and i agree, select 80's rock rules, as long as you stay away from the power ballads (night ranger et al)...

Come on, the power ballads are the best! Whitesnake, Asia, REO Speedwagon, ....
Though I do like other kinds of stuff too - Metallica, Papa Roach, America, CCR, Chili Peppers, Enya, Snoop & Dre, the occasional country band, techno now and then, hell, it's all good. Now you see why I needed to make mixes.
Has anyone here tried (successfully or not) to rig up an MP3 player to their helmet and jump with it? If the volume can go up loud enough to be comparable to a Dytter I would think it would be do-able...

Not positive on this, but I think that they just don't make them capable of being that loud. Would seem like sort of a waste to give them that capability and the put another component in that only lets it go so high. Plus, no normal consumer would ever want or need it that loud, so there is no demand for such a product.

What did you say? I've listened to my walkman {made back in the 80's} too much.. I have a slight hearing disability? Can you speak up please?
It's true the early versions of the Sony Walkmans were able to truly mess up kids ears. I am one that has noticed some hearing loss, don't know if it was the walkman or all the drugs and concerts... But it can and has happened...
