Zennie 0 #1 February 17, 2002 I just wanted to discuss Dave's feelings regarding attitudes in RW vs. FF jumpers. God do I sound like a therapy group moderator or what? I sort of felt the same way a little while back. Since I've sort of done both, and still do, I think I can speak on it in a relatively informed manner.Bottom line is you're gonna have Skygods no matter what discipline you choose. You're also going to have really nice people no matter what discipline you choose.I know some freefliers who have total Skygod attitudes (and really don't have the talent to back it up). Fortunately most are not. Same goes for RW.My way of dealing with it is just not to jump with those types. And I guess that's another reason I like freefly. If I don't have someone to jump with, fine by me, I'll do a solo skills dive. It's a little harder to do an RW solo jump. But in the last few weekends I had some great belly jumps. Mikey & Paula & I did a really fun 3-way skills dive. And I did a couple hoop dives last weekend. We even formed a 7-way on the other side of the hoop on one (yes I made it through the hoop and into the star ).It's really dangerous to over generalize any group of people. Because, as usual, a few bad examples don't represent the majority. I just try to be one of the good examples and avoid the bad ones."Zero Tolerance: the politically correct term for zero thought, zero common sense." AggieDave 6 #2 February 17, 2002 Zen-miester--Yeah, I agree with you dude. No matter where you go, what you do in life there will be great people and not so great people. Personally, I try my hardest to be one of the fun/good people to be around and jump with, as I'm sure we all strive to be, and I seek out those people for my friends and jump partners. Although I do try not to overgeneralize groups, I'm guilty of it, we all are at some points in our life. The solo jumping situation was another reason why I started FFing, but I started mainly b/c of attitudes I was finding...Oh, well...QuoteGod do I sound like a therapy group moderator or what? SkydiveMonkey 0 #3 February 17, 2002 I think some skygods need to act like that because they don't have the skills so they need to make themselves feel superior somehow. Most people are cool though. You shouldn't put a knife in the toaster - but you're an adult now !!!
Emmie 0 #4 February 18, 2002 Thank god I haven encounetered any skygods yet. I found that about 99% of people I've met so far were so down to earth, doesn't matter if they were freefliers or did RW. The 4 way team from my dropzone took 1st place at the nationals, and even they were all nice to me, even before I made any real jumps. I hope it doesn't change. Maybe its cause I'm a girl? While I can understand a newer jumpers perspective (i only have 170 jumps) I think sometimes we don't try to understand the experienced RW jumper. What I mean is this.I'm not a great golfer but I have about a 12 handicap its taken me a long time and a lot of practice to get there. Sometimes I don't mind playing a round with a high handicapper but there are days when I want to play with folks that can hit the ball. Can you immagine taking years to lean to play tennis and then playing every weekend with someone that can't return a serve?RW is no different it takes a bunch of skydives to learn those skills and there are times when those folks want to challenge their skills and jump with people that can turn some points. I respect that and am thakfull when I get invited on a dive with them so I can learn more and improve my skills. Now once your invited and you don't lie about your skill level then they shouldn't get mad about a missed point or a funneled exit!
