AggieDave 6 #26 February 19, 2002 It has to do with mass vs. surface area. More mass but more surface area will leave you with a *normal* terminal velocity. More mass but less surface area will leave you like the chick that was the base on a 17 way I was on (140mph average for her...) Beachbum...I'm going to try my damnedest to get out there Sunday, Saturday is a no go due to some Corps requirements all day (stupid drill comp...). If not, probably the weekend after that. Thank you for the offer, I wouldn't mind taking you up on that one just for grins."I said don't look Ethel, It was too late, she'd already been incensed... Levin 0 #27 February 19, 2002 QuoteHead down in freefly pants - 201i still haven't even broken 200. my best is only 195mph in jeans and t-shirt, feet together and hands on my sides.
AggieDave 6 #28 February 19, 2002 I can't head down yet, but I was clocked at 218mph in a sit a couple weekends ago...That was in real baggy cotton pants (real similar to *real* FF pants) and a baggy sweat shirt. My FF suit is on the way, so maybe I'll slow down, or I'll start jumping a drogue..."I said don't look Ethel, It was too late, she'd already been incensed... Levin 0 #32 February 19, 2002 QuoteSolo tracking dive in a freefly suit... ProTrack said 90mphduring the freefly festival at spaceland last year they had the lee mcmillan tracking contest. at least that's what i think it wa called. anyway i entered it. thing was i could only track good on my back. so fo 30min before the contest i went in the proshop and watched cloud's edge. they have alot of tracking dives. after studying the video i went out and did 79mph. trey went just a far and did 77mph. derek (hooknswoop) tracked clear across hwy288. oh ya we started out a 1/2 mile on the other side of the hanger. or supposedly a 1/2 mile. it was fun. lazerq3 0 #33 February 19, 2002 Its like you take a iece of 8x11 paper and drop it it floats to the ground, but take away its surface area and crumple it up , it drops a lot faster!!! Same principle with belly flying to sit or head down!!jason
RedBull 0 #34 February 19, 2002 My best belly fall-rate is 168 mph (TAS), according to my Pro-Track. This was in a polycotton RW suit w/ cordura booties and forearm slip-ons -- I guess I'd better lay off the doughnuts.
