how fast can you fall on your belly

pro-track verified

There has got to be a better way to verify vertical speed than a ProTrack. I'll admit that a ProTrack is a good tool for an individual to guage if he's speeding up or slowing down over the course of several skydives, but the instrument is not accurate. Was he wearing it on his leg, outside his helmet, inside his helmet, on his chest strap? What did everyone else ProTrack say? I've been on jumps where I was level with my partner and the differences in PT readings were upwards of 30MPH, both units set to the same airspeed, I can't remember if it was SAS or TAS. Either way, it's a great tool I think for an individual, but there has got to be something better for getting true speed readings.

Let's see:
1. Belly flying in blue jeans and t-shirt - 143 mph.
2. Belly flying in Flightsuit - 109 mph.
3. Belly flying in TonySuit - 112 mph.
4. Head down in freefly pants - 201. (Second greatest rush I ever had..the first being my baby girl)
All Pro Track verified.

I fall slow, but Big John, who is a national level weightlifter, was going 166mph (according to pro-track) on a jump we did a while back -- I couldn't keep up in my steepest dive... my fall rate has improved since I got my fast RW suit from Tad's

Fallin fast??? um not me...
I have been accused of changing my mind and trying to reboard the Otter at altitude! When i broke off from the Magic Carpet Ride at Mardi Gras i tried to fall my slowest and just watched everyone fall away from me. Almost everyone actually disappeared into little specs below me. I looked back and below me in my track and could see everyone's canopy opening a good 5 seconds before i pulled.

Funny, I've never bothered to see how fast I can go on my belly. I'm always trying to figure out how SLOW I can go, because going low sucks and I'm tired of always being base.
I'll have to give it a shot next time I'm in shorts weather...

Slow fall contest ... now THERE'S one I might could win ... LOL. 6'2" and 145 lbs ... AggieDave ... let me know the next time you're gonna get loose from the books, etc. ... will let you borrow my protrack ... I'm only using it for fallrate right now, not as an alarm.

Solo tracking dive in a freefly suit... ProTrack said 90mph

I'd have to go back & look but I think my tracking dive was in the 90MPH-ish average range too.
I'll have to do one for a solo one of these times and just see what kind of number I come up with.

OOOoooo!!! OOOOoooo!!!
Here would be a good one! Biggest spread between fastest & slowest!
Max: 225 head down.
Min: 99 tracking dive.
Diff: 126 MPH.
I use SAS in my ProTrack BTW.

it was the only pro-track on the jump and i'm not sure if it was on the inside of the hemet or the outside. my comfort zone while headdown is 145-160mph. i feel like the pro-track was probably pretty close. i even floated for just a sec. i agree thay they are not totally realiable or accurate, but right now that is all that is available. or at least that i know of.
