SatchFan 0 #1 February 21, 2002 Has anyone jumped with a bad head cold before? I only have one jump to go before I am off of student status. I have a cold so I have been putting it off. I'm afraid my head might explode! That would ruin my whole week."Death smiles upon everybody, all a man can do is smile back" LOOK AT THE GRIN ON MY FACE!!!!!~Jason
lazerq3 0 #2 February 21, 2002 From waht I've heard you can blow your eardrums if your synigness (sp) is stuffy. That would put you out for a lot longer than waiting for it to clear up !!!! I havnt ever jumped with a cold (just been lucky I guess) but I did do a couple of jumps about a month ago where it was -8 degrees F at altitude. The jumps were great and I felt fine, but the next morning I woke up and my head just pounded and my hole body was for shit. I dont no maybe I'm just a pussy but it sucked . SO I would say let your cold go away!!jason
hooked 0 #3 February 21, 2002 I was told DON'T DO IT! It would not be fun. So, I didn't jump. It was a hard decision for me to make, since it was my first time in Eloy, and I really wanted to jump. I followed everyones advice because of the danger of harming your eardrums.J
Dutchboy 0 #4 February 21, 2002 Don't do it. I've jumped with only a minor cold before, and I was still paying for it days later. The DutchboyPhil's Flying Enterprises, Inc.
Jabeln79 0 #5 February 21, 2002 ITs a good idea not to so i dont recomend it however i jumped with a head cold this winter well i was getting better i had the could for about 4 days and it was starting to clear up so i decided to jump when my ears started cracking on the way up i thought i was doomed, but nothing happend and they never hurt at all on the way up or in free fall.but like i said its a safer bet to jump next week than to be out for a long time because you took a chanceBlue Skies Joe "When they say jump you say how high" RATM
FallinWoman 1 #6 February 21, 2002 DON'T DO IT!!!Towards the end of my training I had a cold and jumped anyway. Didn't hurt too much during the jump, just made my ears feel clogged. That clogged feeling didn't go away for two weeks. I could barely hear.Turns out I blew both my eardrums and damaged my inner left ear. I had vertigo for two days. It was only fun for the first three minutes. I was out of the sky for four weeks, then back for only a hop & pop to stay current. About eight weeks of no jumping.Much better to take one week off than eight.Anne
hooked 0 #7 February 21, 2002 Just an added note.....you probably already know you shouldn't but thought maybe somebody would say it was okay. When I had my head cold and came here for advice, I already knew what the answer was, I guess I was just hoping somebody would say it was okay. It was really the advice from the staff at Eloy, that encouraged me not to do a jump.J
Kris 0 #8 February 21, 2002 Eardrums are bad, a ruptured sinus would be much worse and will require some pretty serious surgery. I went through the same thing last month, just do the same thing I did: tough it out and wait until you are 100%. The sport WILL wait.Kris
jtval 0 #9 February 21, 2002 stay low for awhile get over the cold.some may think "ill just take med's and jump while im cleared up" wrong idea. altitudewill disorientate you something fierce if you are on med'sand the pressure thing...dont chance it. i didnt know about it when i jumped with stuffy sinus' lucky me i only had a trail of snot running for about 7,000 ft from my nose to the king air.(or from exit til deployment) but it couldve been worse(it coulda showed up on the video that i paid for on that dive.)i lucked out but i will never jump like that again. my head was pretty tight when we were at altitude. didnt thinkit was the snot expanding but it was. pretty nasty thought huh. but at least its only a memory for me. dont chance itgetting high is fun, but coming down is the best partJT
AggieDave 6 #10 February 21, 2002 Due to dorm living, I always seem to have some sort of head-cold going on. Usually nothing major, just enough that it messes with my ears when I jump. I've had some days where I had to quit jumping because my ears hurt so bad, and my hearing was messed up for a couple days. That and I've had days where I had snot running up my goggles. The thing is, though, yes it can be painful and you can jump anyways; however, you CAN do serious (read: perminate) damage to your sinuses and hearing."I'll take Famous Titties for 400..."
