nws01 0 #1 February 22, 2002 This is a question for all you computer experts out there. I have a HP Notebook and it keeps pissing me off. First, it always kicks me out of AOL after about 5 minutes. I am in a hotel so I know it is not call waiting or anything like that. Second, after I log on a couple more times the computer, battery, and outlet charger zaps. Totally turns off. If I try to turn it back on it just zaps again. I have to wait about 15 minutes before I can turn it on. I tried to contact HP but had no luck. Anyone know what could be wrong?Nathan
christopherm 0 #2 February 22, 2002 I'm not real familiar with labtops but you could try turning it on in safe mode. I thinks it is one of the f keys while it is first booting up. Just do this and then restart. Otherwise, I don't really know except for something weird with the wiring in the power supply. Sorry I can't be more help.-So, how hard is the ground?! SkydiveMonkey 0 #3 February 22, 2002 Keep trying to speak to HP or the guys you bought it from if it wasn't direct. How long have you had it? You should be able to get a new one if it's less than a year. You shouldn't put a knife in the toaster - but you're an adult now !!!
AggieDave 6 #4 February 22, 2002 Call the lobby and ask them if their phones are safe for modems. Normal POTS run at about 50volts DC (dial-tone), but some PBXs run at MUCH higher voltage that could tear the shit out of your modem..."I'll take Famous Titties for 400..." wildblue 7 #5 February 22, 2002 hotels are famous for dirty phone lines and dirty power. bad stuff for computers. It's not one of those "pay by the hour" places, is it?Never argue with stupid people. They just drag you down 2 their level & beat you with experience
nws01 0 #6 February 22, 2002 ___________________________________________________It's not one of those rented by the hour is it?___________________________________________________I am by myself so it is rented by minutes. hahaThis happened in Naples, at a friends house in Orlando and now here. It is not the modem or the hotel it definetly is the computer.Nathan
AggieDave 6 #7 February 22, 2002 Then call HP Tech Support, they'll probably tell you to run the recovery disk, but either way, they know their gear better then we do."I'll take Famous Titties for 400..."
