MyUserID 0 #1 February 25, 2002 As if proliferating the earth with cheesy teeny-bopper icons wasn't enough....http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1452464/20020220/n_sync.jhtml?headlines=trueNow, I'm all for space tourism, but when it's just for publicity, that really cheapens the whole idea of going to space. If this actually happens, and he actually goes, space will never be the same again. If I was an astronaut that worked my ass off to be as such, or I was a space tourist that worked my ass of for the the 20 million dollars to go, I'd be so friggin furious. indyz 1 #6 February 25, 2002 Slashdot still has good articles (unless it's Katz, who seems to have disappeared as of late), but I have to browse the comments at +3 to cut out the static. Unfortunately, it seems like just about all public message boards end up that way eventually. I found Fark in the good 'ole days when there were less than 4000 users. Now there are 22000+ and I can't even read the comments anymore, it just isn't worth it. DZ.com seems to be holding out pretty well, I can only hope signal:noise ratio stays as high as it is.--BrianHomepageAIM: suprmath

Believe me, if a celebrity gets a slot on a Shuttle, it's not going to be free - it's going to be because someone stands to make a lot of money (NASA, in this case) from the event. As far as I can tell, most astronauts share the dream of opening up space for mankind. That means all of mankind, even the annoying parts. In fact, at least in the near future, it _will_ be the annoying parts (the rich and famous) because they will be the only ones who can afford it.-bill von

freeflir29 0 #9 February 25, 2002 Well....I have a cousin that has flown the Space shuttle on 6 missions I think. He just does it cause it's one hell of a ride. I would have to think he would resent being reduced to glorified limo driver for a publicity stunt. Plus...who wants some "star" on board if something goes wrong. I doubt most Hollywood "stars" would have the mental capacity to deal with an emergency. They would be looking around for their stunt double...."I only have a C license, so I don't know shit..right?"-Clay
