Do you really believe that people who support strong gun controls can't maintain an intelligent conversation?

When they're from other countries, it's been my experience that yes, you can't have an intelligent conversation with them about it.
Quotes like below are example why.
Quote

If you had a different approach to gun control, maybe you wouldn't have 40,000 Americans dieing each year at the hand of other Americans.

Care to compare the crime rate for Miami against London? Guns really don't impact the murder/crime rate, people can kill each other with just about anything.
But the real issue is that guns in America are none of your business, you don't live here. Guns are pretty much banned in Canada and you don't see Americans up in arms about it or even having an opinion about it.
If you're an American every little thing your country does is open to speculation by every other country in the world no matter what the circumstances surrounding it.
There's a reason why we interfere in the spread of communism. There's a reason why we allow our citizens to arms themselves. But the "America Bashers" don't care about that, I think they're really only looking for something to bitch about with our country. It's almost like it's an international hobby that has been going on for decades.
You don't like the situation in the Middle East? Fine, what has Canada done about it? You don't like how we dealt with the USSR in Afghan back in the 80's? Fine, what was Canada doing about it at the time?
America tends to take a lead in a lot of world conflicts. We get involved, we get dirty, most of these situations are conflicts that go back thousands of years. Sometimes they work out, sometimes they don't. Criticize all you want, but at the end of the day what's Canada doing to help the world situation?

Well, since you asked... in 1957 Lester B Pearson, then Minister of External Affairs, won the Nobel Prize for Peace for a plan he presented to the United Nations the year before to help bring lasting peace to the Suez Canal region. He is the person responsible for the United Nations Peacekeeping Forces. Canada has been involved in 53 missions since then, with over 125,000 of our soldiers seeing duty. 35 of those world-wide missions since 1990. Places like The Golan Heights (in the middle east), Bosnia-Herzgovina, Somalia, East Timor, etc (have you ever even heard of East Timor Mark?). 107 of our soldiers have died on those missions. And just a couple of weeks ago, Canadians rescued two of your helicopter crews who got lost in a sandstorm near the airfield in Kandahar.
The only -- ONLY "world conflicts" America gets involved in is where American interests are threatened. Like Kuwait. Where were you in Rawanda? Considering Canada has just 10% the population of the US, you can imagine our military forces are much smaller. But we are there in Afghanistan, capturing Taliban and Al Qaeda fighters, and turning them over to American forces. Our Navy vessles are patrolling the Gulf, boarding and searching suspicious ships. We are there helping as best we can because Canada and the US are allies... Our military is certainly underfunded by our government, but our soldiers are among the best trained in the world.

But how could you be expected to know any of this? Most Americans are rather ignorant about Canada, as you so clearly demonstrated. Do you know what city is our seat of government? Do you know who our Prime Minister is Mark? How many of the provinces in this wonderful country can you name Mark? Obviously you don't know what Canada is doing to make the world a better place.
Hey, this is a debate worthy of the RSL or CYPRES debates we've had in the past! I miss the boobie talk, though...;)
Frank.

Actually Scott, all he did was use my arguement, "You don't know anything about my country, so just STFU about it."
I stand by my earlier comment that you can't have an intelligent conversation about anything America does with most people who don't live there.
You just get statements like:

As if Canada doesn't need the oil from that region just as much as we do, or Canada wasn't there kicking Iraq out of the country with us.
But apparently when Canada, Germany, France or Britain does something it's for the good of Mankind, while America is only looking out for its own ass.

Good point. It generally is easier to lay the blame of being selfish at someone else's feet, regardless of one's motivation for doing something. People perfer to think of themselves as altruistic instead of greedy. :)20 million bathtubs can't be wrong. . .

Instead of a hammerless revolver, how about something like a Kal-Tec 32 or a Kal-Tec 9mm? Automatic, much much slimmer, you can carry in a pants pocket or a purse and no one could tell. No safeties, except a very looooooooong trigger pull.
"Wait...are you selling Penis Mighters?"
