they would say things weren't working and it turned out they didn't plug something it.

I get the same crap all of the time here at the University. "The Zip drive doesn't work and I can't get the disk out." Long story short, she had managed the plug the parallel cable in correctly but forgot about the AC adapter. She thought I was a genius when I pulled out my trusty paperclip and got the disk out. That helped her solve the error message she got on her other computer when she tried to access a Zip drive (with power, this time) with no disk in it.

This is so embarasing. But in WinME how do you setup your two computers to read each oethers drives?
Please note that I am trying to do this over the phone and have never used winME. I would assume
1) plug in cable
2 network neighborhood
3) pick and choose the files
Who ever said comming down from a high was bad obviously never tried this.

Over the phone between two WinME boxes? You need to get networking going between them, which as far as I know, isn't possible with the software that comes with ME. The simplest solution would be to buy a product like pcAnywhere from Symantec.

That last post was confusing for the reader.
I am helping a friend over the phone do his networking and wanted to know what to tell him. I'm pretty positive that those are the steps to take having used every other OS but ME.
Why I never bothered to learn I blame on terrible reviews from mags and my buddies

That is exactly as I thought. So then then steps above will work for 95, 98 as well as ME. This is now no longer a question but a fact. Pardon my brief mooment of ignorance

I assume you are using ethernet. If you don't have an ethernet hub or switch you will need a crossover cable (RX & TX pairs swapped) plugged in-between the two PC's.
From there, just set them up with a unique private DNS address (10.15.15.2 for PC1 & 10.15.15.3 for PC2 with a subnet of 255.255.255.0) for each PC. Do not use DHCP.
Enable File Sharing in Control Panel > Network and then go to the properties of the drive you want to share and enable sharing on the drives / folders you want to share.
Or you could be easy and set them up on the same workgroup name and enable IPX which is a pretty decent protocol but buggy to troubleshoot.
There are a lot of good FAQ's on the net on "peer to peer" networking. Do a search on Yahoo for that phrase and you will find what you need.

Know EXACTLY what you mean, John. Cracks me up when they do something stoopid and then try and get shitty with me and want it fixed RIGHT NOW!!! When they ask nicely and politely I try and help them, when they give me attitude I go for a looooong tea break... ;)

PS notice you left poodles out of that list - Woo-hoo!! Party on!!!

It is so hard to keep track of your "girlfriends" and Clay's. Let me repeat this to help me remember:
Clay - Sheep
Skreamer - Poodles
Clay - Sheep
Skreamer - Poodles
Clay - Sheep
Skreamer - Poodles
There, now maybe I'll be able to keep them straight.
Amusing, that the word "straight" can be used in connection to sexual preferences involve sheep and poodles. :D
