Pammi 0 #1 March 6, 2002 Merrick and I would love to come to Dallas for safety day since the kids will be leaving early Saturday morning for Spring Break and we're free to come down. We wouldn't get there til late Saturday because the kids are flying out of Wichita at about 8:45 that morning. So what happens at safety day down there? I haven't actually been to one yet. And being as how Merrick and I are both rigless right now, what is the cost to rent for a day? (for Sunday)Thanks!Closing pin jewelry
mountainman 0 #2 March 6, 2002 Do you mind me asking why you are rigless?JumpinDuo.com...come and sign the guestbook.
AggieDave 6 #3 March 6, 2002 Trying borrowing someone's rig, if the winds are above a whisper of a breeze, they won't let you jump rented gear, no matter what lisence you hold. I got screwed on that one day a while back when the winds were something like 13mph. They wouldn't let me jump. I eventally just left pissed off. (Luckily, I went back to the DZ with gear and a friend to find it to be better DZ then I had thought of it about a year ago)."Give me one ping and one ping only..." skycat 0 #4 March 6, 2002 Pammi if you have a main talk to Tequilla girl she has a spare rig with a PD 126 reserve in it. What weekend is that, cause if I'm up there I also have a spare rig with no main.
GrumpySmurf 0 #5 March 6, 2002 You gotta be kidding me??Are they that anal about rental gear condition - (in terms of dirt and scuffs, not air-worthiness - you should be fussy about air-worthiness)? I figure a recent 'A' on a no wind day would do just as much damage with botching landings as an experienced person on a windy day. Or is this mentality of 'any wind, no rentals' more widespread? skycat 0 #6 March 6, 2002 My old DZ would ground the rental gear in like 18 mph winds, but that was cause they mains were 200+ sq. Also I think Skydive Houston does this when the winds are over 18 or 20. Not so much to save the gear, but rather that the gear isn't well suited for the conditions. Since Skydive Dallas has been upgrading their gear they may not be grounding them until the winds are higher do to smaller mains.
GrumpySmurf 0 #7 March 6, 2002 Ahh ok, for some reason when someone says 'rental gear' - I'm thinking of Sabre(2)'s, Stillettos, and the like. Grounding the Mantas and thier kin certainly would make sense, else some lucky farmer might get thier field turned early this year as you get dragged across it . Pammi 0 #8 March 6, 2002 Well, I have a rig, with no reserve, waiting on the new one to come in (I'm selling mine because it's too small for me and being a Dash-M that needs the fix on it, I REALLY am not going to chance jumping with it!). So I have a Sabre 135 main..would that fit? Merrick has a Cypress..lol. That's pretty much it. His rig got sold faster then he anticipated and so he's still waiting on his new gear he ordered to get here...will be another month at least...Closing pin jewelry
PhreeZone 20 #9 March 6, 2002 Most places don't have a seperate rental/student rigs. Only a few places actually have high proformance canopies for rent to anyone who walks into the door. Only a small fraction of DZ's have all ZP student gear, and even fewer have student gear in smaller sizes like what most experienced jumpers are using now days.Student/rental gear at my home DZ is PD-190's to Manta's. All F1-11 since the gear works, is in good condition and has plently of life left. Why waste a good canopy? The DZ does have a Spectre 150 and a Stiletto 135 for experienced jumper usage only. Cause I don't wanna come back down from this cloud... ~ Bush
skycat 0 #10 March 6, 2002 Your 135 sure will fit actually it will fit almost perfectly, Cyndi has had everything from a saber 150 to a stiletto 97 in it. Landing backwards hurts! Just look at the herniated disc in my spine! Last year there were seminars out the yin-yang, hosted by such experts as Mike Ortiz...also you got a $10 jump ticket if you hung in the training harness and did safety procedures and attended at least three seminars (all of which were held after dark, I THINK) - anyway, we do a lot of great stuff on Safety Day.Here is thing on rental gear. Student gear and rental gear are one and the same. And all of our student gear is NEW, most of them have Sabre2s in them and the container/harnesses are new as well. I am not sure where the original policy came from, I know it sucks for people but that's the dz's policy so you just have to deal with it. At least they don't require all jumpers to have an AAD (unless you don't have an A license). Rental gear there is expensive, I am still training in the gear/ticket sales but I think its like $25 a jump or $75 a day. So if you make more than 3 jumps on it, you're doing well. Something like that. I would borrow gear if I were you unless you just won the lottery.Safety Day is March 16, which is a Saturday. Blue Skies!SisDying a natural death is for pussies!
