GroundZero 0 #1 March 8, 2002 Wow, Michele won a $100 certificate for gear and pm'ed me that (while she was only guessing), she wants to donate her certificate to Jump for the Cause... how nice! However... she has no gear and she's thinkin of donating this... Here's what we do... someone get a contact for the Jump for the Cause... post it here and we all make donations to JFTC and tell Michele to keep the certificate. I think her generosity can inspire everyone else to (collectively) raise even more for a GREAT cause and she has a start on gear for herself... What do ya think? SpeedRacer 1 #8 March 8, 2002 The National Cancer Institute (NCI) spent $332.9 million on breast cancer and only $74 million on prostate cancer in 1997.OK not that I'm complaining in this politically-correct day & age.(well oK yes I am)...but the demographics of incidence & mortality of prostate cancer in men is very similar to that of breast cancer in women...but breast cancer research gets 5 times as much funding...hmm, even now when oncology has been a well-established science since the seventies, breast cancer is better understood than prostate cancer...For example, my own department in the biotech company I worked for spent 4 months researching gene therapy for a gene we THOUGHT was turned on in prostate tumor cells but wasn't...so now we have to find a different promoter gene....hmmm could it be that the public is more willing to promote cures in visually attractive glands (mammary glands) vs. less attractive or invisible glands (i.e. prostate glands). but this would imply that fashionable political wisdom is shallow & subject to the frivolous and fashionable whims of the public......Speed Racer"Fill your hand, you son-of-a-bitch!"
