SkydiveMonkey 0 #2 March 12, 2002 Prefer LAPD, Amazed, and Dirty Magic, but Defy you is wicked. It's a lot different to some of the earlier stuff Offspring brought out. One tequila, two tequila, three tequila floor

Check it out! It's just scary how fast technology moves. When I was a kid, 8-track tapes were the big thing, and scratchy records were a staple of every teenager's room. Then cassette tapes made it easier to record music, and I remember debating Dolby B vs Dolby C, metal vs high-bias tape with other snooty audiophiles. Then CD's came out and changed everything. In college, me and some friends built an audio processing system as part of a final project. One subsystem stored 30 seconds of audio on a massive EPROM board - we spent a week looking for a song that was only 30 seconds long. I predicted that one day we'd be storing whole albums on solid-state memory cards. We talked about patenting it, but of course this was college and there was beer to be drunk. Now we can store 100 songs on something the size of a big postage stamp, 4000 songs on something the size of a cassette tape. We don't buy music any more, we just download it. The computer is replacing the stereo, VCR and DVD player. Makes me wonder about how my kids will listen to music, and how they'll look at CD's the same way I look at 8 track tapes - as ancient technology.-bill von
Schroeder 0 #5 March 12, 2002 Not to knock the offspring, but I thought that the Defy You song that they're playing on the radio lately seemed a little manufactured. I haven't heard the rest of the disc, so that might just be my perspective in comparison to their ealier stuff.
