airann 1 #1 March 12, 2002 (This thread concerns everyone with a helmet with a strap, IMHO)I am in the hangar ---waiting on a load, ...how ya been? How is work? Weather is good/bad, .. his helmet or mine.. ......I asked him has he figured a way outta his helmet yet? ..He hesitated and said ...Well... um yeah, and he looked kinda funny.. like he never really thought about any of it... so I told him somethin... and we both felt alot better,.. I am on the way to Alt.... ---waiting on Alt, ...how ya been? How is work? Weather is good/bad, .. his helmet or mine.. ......I asked him has he figured a way outta his helmet yet? ..He hesitated and said ...Well... um yeah, . .. and he looked kinda funny.. like he never really thought about any of it.. so I told him somethin... and we both felt alot better,.. both had a chin strap like mine....And.. I have been working on my release of that chin strap and doing it quickly...Stay with me people...... When you get your helmet.... sometimes there is another strap on your helmet -as you add other chin strap- the original one is sometimes not removed. You are not suposed to use both...stuff the original chin strap up between the liner and the helmet -OR- have it taken off. Either one... IMHO, you dont need 2 chin staps... Because..... getting one strap off -is one thing.... ..and getting two straps off -is two thingsAA skyfly tip- (on the ground)- practice takin your helmet off, time it...get someone to pull on your helmet -generating pull from a couple of different drag positions, maybe you are in a chair...Now... -practice takin your helmet off, time it...Its different with drag... IMHOor consider the source- work on it anyway, test my theory[laughing]AirAnn[laughing]1. guy with 600 jumps never really thought about getting out of his helmet that latches in the back and then the chin strap2. guy had 150 jumps with 2 chin straps on. Check yourself and other peoples stuff. Dont forget, you are standing there anyway. ...Ann ~ www.AirAnn.com

airann 1 #4 March 12, 2002 I am just saying if guy with 150 jumps on camera had been involved in a issue with lines on his helmet. He would have had to get out of 2 chin straps -one of which is semi weird in the first place. IMHOLike you are in the army and your life depends on getting your gun put back together. They practice this in the army, I think - put it together -time. Take it apart -time. Now do it in the dark.Jan did get out of her helmet. But I think it was not in time. Now they have memorial boogies. And she was one of the all time best.Ann ~ www.AirAnn.com

skydiventom 0 #9 March 13, 2002 There are lots'a things to think about when you get a helmet. I was sooooo very lucky to have great imput from people who had years of camera flying give me pointers.... sometimes I worry when I talk with someone with just a few hundred jumps talk about how they were "focused" on getting the shot and pulled low.......... Pull higher than everyone else.... Focus on being perfectly stable on deployment. I totally love this sport and can't tell you how much joy I get shooting video and stills. however, I don't want to die doing it..... There have been way too many video fatalities the last year... one was someone I knew very well.... I will miss her....
