Zennie 0 #1 March 16, 2002 Since the weather sucks like a Hoover right now, I went shopping for a new toy I had been lusting over for some time now. Since I'm hardly ever at my desk, and since I work with computers (which means I need to remember a gazillion passwords and settings), and since I hate lugging around a bunch of gadgets, I really wanted to buy a combined Palm/cell phone. It came down to the Handspring Treo & the Samsung I300.I went with the I300 for a couple reasons. It has a color display and a newer version of Palm OS. It has ring & vibrate modes (which I can't seem to find out if the Treo has). You can do voice memos with it (which I also can't find out for the Treo). Right now the Treo is GSM-only, which I didn't particularly like since it's so new & limited as far as service areas go.So I got the I300 (which has Sprint PCS as the provider). I've been dinking around with it a little and this things has tons of features. At least I have a toy to play with with the cloudy weather. PalmettoTiger 1 #2 March 16, 2002 Congrats Zen! I got a Handspring Visor Edge for X-Mas, and it's been an incredible tool. I have a terrible short-term memory, so I used to carry a notepad around to jot things down like grocery lists or things I had to get done that day, etc. The Visor is so much better than that, though - I use it as a notepad, calendar, and address book, and it's so much easier to stay organized now. The best thing about it is that it's really thin, so I can slip it in my pocket and have it with me at all times. It also has a built-in metal faceplate, so I don't have to have a separate case for it (which would make it too big to go in a pocket). Do you have wireless data service on the 1300, or just voice service?PTigerI'm stepping through the doorAnd I'm floating in a most peculiar way

Zennie 0 #4 March 16, 2002 I know you can do wireless web & stuff with it. But I didn't get that cuz I never use it.I was reading a discussion group and some guy has a version of VNC that runs on the thing!"Zero Tolerance: the politically correct term for zero thought, zero common sense." Zennie 0 #5 March 16, 2002 Quoteoh, so your passwords are on your cell ehHehehe, alway working the crack angle. There's a program from GNU that will let you encrypt all of your passwords on your Palm. GNU Keyring IIRC.Gonna have to get that before I give you my cell number. Zennie 0 #7 March 16, 2002 QuoteDamn.. What did that set you back??About $430 with a $70 mail in rebate. But I think I might be able to get work to pick up part of the tab. I'm sort of have a reputation as Gadget-Boy anyway so I would have gotten it regardless. "Zero Tolerance: the politically correct term for zero thought, zero common sense."
