algboy 0 #24 March 16, 2002 I somehow missed this post earlier. Anyway . . . I heard that *Cheryl Stearns* was on that Knights load and was already under canopy at 3500 when she heard commotion on the ground. The news report pissed me off, because they didn't make it CLEAR that she was ALIVE for quite a while. PalmettoTiger 1 #25 March 16, 2002 Here's the latest AP wire report (10:24 pm EST). My sorrows to those who knew and loved him. MARANA, Ariz. (AP) — An airplane used by the Golden Knights military parachute team collided with a civilian plane during a practice jump near a rural airport Friday, a military spokeswoman said. The military pilot was killed, said Lt. Col. Marian Hansen. The four parachutists had jumped from the plane before the collision. The turboprop used by the skydivers crashed into a dry riverbed a mile north of the Marana Airport. The civilian plane, a Cessna, landed safely, said Keith Holloway, a spokesman for the National Transportation Safety Board. The NTSB and the military were investigating. The Golden Knights, the Army's parachute team, are based out of Fort Bragg, N.C., but had been conducting training at the Marana Airport, about 20 miles north of Tucson. The military pilot was identified as Lowell K. Timmons. His hometown and age weren't immediately released.
