nacmacfeegle 0 #6 March 18, 2002 Yup, I broke the shaft and the neck of my femur. I've got a femural nail, complete with 5 screws, 2 at the knee three at the hip, all still in place. One screw worked loose and needed replacing a couple of months after installation. The sawbones did it under a local (still under warranty ) which was a real weird sensation. Apart from that, they are no problem, almost 6 years now.No, they don't set off airport metal detectors etc.Big tip #1 Do the physio.Big tip #2 You have the rest of your life to rejoin the sport, don't rush it.Big tip #3, Don't turn low.Chicks don't dig scars as much as you think .Speedy recovery Wildblue....CyaDIt aint what you fly, its how you fly it! nacmacfeegle 0 #10 March 18, 2002 Mebbe they just don't dig MYscars, or is it me? "Dear Dr Ruth , I have many scars but no hotties chase me. What am I doing wrong?"Seriously, my g/f stuck by me throough the 2 1/2 years it took my femur to heal (complications, long story), And also stuck by me through other non-associated trauma. I don't need any steenkin' scar hounds.CyaDIt aint what you fly, its how you fly it!

hottamaly 1 #16 March 18, 2002 I went to slide in a landing, and my feet stuck and my leg kept going. I broke all 4 corners of where my leg and foot attach. I had a plate with 5 screws, a pin, and 2 more big screws. When I was healed, they bugged the shit out of me and I had them removed. No problems since, and that was 5 years and 1000 skydives ago. Good luck, and heal fast.SKYDIVING GAVE ME A REASON TO LIVE....

jceman 1 #21 March 19, 2002 $8000 leg -- that's a cheapie, man!Mine is about $58,000 -- have a 12 inch titanium plate held on by nine inch and ahalf screws, 3 three inch screws in the head of my femur and 2 stainless steel "tie wraps" around the works. No rods, my femur exploded and the pieces that were left were not big enough or organized enough for one -- hence the plate (and the bone graft later to fill in the remaining hole). All the stuff is in there almost four years later, and yes, sometimes it hurts like hell. Will have them out possibly in April or after the convention, depending upon if it starts bothering me more.
