"Dropzone Dave" used to jump at my dz years ago (before I started jumping" ... he is one of the world's foremost authorities on NEOs (Near Earth Orbit asteroids) ... Dave is member of Spaceguard -- a small organization of astronomers who moniter known NEOs, and search for new ones. It is undeniable -- Earth will be in the same location in space as an asteroid or comet eventually (as Jupiter was a few years back) -- and if nothing is done, the results will be catostrophic. What can be done, you ask? Well if governments would stop reducing funding for research programs, and INCREASE funding, we MIGHT be able to find "the big one" before it finds us ... and if we find it early enough, our brilliant scientists might be able to develop new technologies that could save us all... 3 cheers for Dave Balam and his associates!
